SDS/Saavedra Design Studio How you Feel Inspires How you Live ... SDS/SAAVEDRA Saavedra Design Studio serves as catalyst for inspired design. The key distinction is in our process.

Instead of pushing trends, we listen to our clients and delve into how they want to feel in their space. Our clients are our muse, and they inspire us to reveal the innate beauty of a space through the mindful combination of exacting standards, keen attention to quality craftsmanship and an effortless aesthetic. Authenticity and ease are at the core of the studio's interior design philosophy, which is rooted in a deeper connection between our clients and their environment.

OGEE // an archive print in the Morris tradition becomes the background of the brides room. //
Using color as a through line is something that I discovered I did years ago. Here -on the second story - we meet the color of the blue of the dining room( Nelson blue) for the second time. Its not a literal repeat - this time it is slightly warmer but unmistakable that it is a very close cousin.
From the late 1800’s - The Morris motif (an ogee compromised of leaves) isn’t pure white but is warm and creamy as is the single shade of white used throughout this historic home - occupied by its first family -The Nelson’s- also beginning in the late 1800’s ... 1895.
Details matter.
In the work that I do , all the details might not be conspicuous but that doesn’t mean they’re not there.
Here’s to beginning the rest of the week ahead. @ Woodbine Mansion

The best approach most times is the simplest. With walls and trim in the same perfect shade of blue, an original medallion + chandelier and the ceiling awash in custom colored lime wash - this room is simultaneously a reminder of a past era and poised to be classically beautiful for decades to come.
I might be most known for the simple, modern, and detailed interiors that I create but the approach and the process is the same for each and every project.
Simple,authentic,beauty.

There’s a thing we sometimes tend to do as designers - I’d add simply as people - and that’s to try to perfect everything that we consider undesirable. Can we rip this out or cover that up. Sometimes what is just is and you do the best you can to work with it.
Often the work required will be uncomfortable but eye opening. And what you’ll find is that what you were convinced was a flaw actually is the catalyst for creating something better than what you would have ended up with if you just bypassed that hot spot altogether.
We could have easily built a solid wall (barriers up!) and ignored the fact that this refrigerator essentially sat in the living area of this tiny bungalow but that would only magnify the problem at hand. Instead we embrace what’s real ; give you a glimpse of what’s beyond-and, I believe, that makes you want to explore further. Deeper layers = deeper connections.
I’m going to do my best to embrace this as we head into the new week. Have the best week ahead friends.

WRAPPED // the tiniest office wrapped in texture from another Bouldin Creek home.//
I can usually predict the response when I suggest to a client that we wrap a room in color or texture (often times both together as is above). This look comes upon their face as if I’m suddenly speaking a foreign tongue. Paper the ceiling? Yes. Paint everything the same shade? Yes. There’s a method and it hits home - not only on a visual level but on an emotional one as well.

Desire expansion- you gotta get to the core.
Want to feel cramped and small? Fill your space with safe, small, things . Instead go big. Use generous scale + take risks. That’s when the magic happens.

Often times the opposite of what you think should be your course of action is actually what gets you to the destination you have your eye upon.

BALANCE // a modern envelope of warm white and concrete + handmade texture from our Rosedale project. //
There’s a combination that’s ingrained in my being - the coupling between simplicity that appears always clean and “perfected” and intrigue of handmade texture with all of its imperfect lure. It’s a romance of elements that has intrinsic gravity which you can settle in each and every time.
This modern box of a house - with its straight lines and cool concrete floors - could easily fit into the cookie cutter world had it been filled will expectations and furnishings that followed suit.
Casually classic, traditional, chairs wrapped in the same white as the walls fade into the background allowing the real interest of texture to take center stage. All the rough edges become what we love most about what’s in this space.
There’s something to really appreciate about the pursuit of being well put together - we love people and things for those traits- but isn’t the real draw all the rough edges that somehow you can’t but help be enamored with? I think , it’s these imperfect bits that create the real connection ... both between people and with spaces.
Have the best week friends and see you along the way.

REMNANTS // restrained master bath + found, carved, goblet from our Bryker Woods project // photography + styling
There’s a pull that happens when you contrast something primitive, like this goblet, against another that seems to be nearly perfect. Old with new. Polished paired with rough. I’m constantly seeking these objects out ... the perfect bowl, the misshapen mortar... Handcrafted belongings that bear the perfect remnants of life and the marks from the hands that made them ...
There’s so much more interest in that which is slightly imperfect - we just need the proper foil to appreciate it- don’t you think?

ELEVATE// Ancient Greek from client’s collection displayed for focus.//
Isolation. I use this when I want to convey importance. Whether it’s an object like this or something you might consider ordinary- - a client had a treasured jar of shirt buttons we placed in a lucite box ; another kept a bowl of shells from her beach walks with her father; I have worn spoons from my mother’s kitchen. // When you remove it from the chaos and call direct attention to it - it subconsciously says - “ I Matter.” // the ordinary elevated to something worth noticing.
We are a culture that’s so doggedly focused achieving (and comparison)and Becoming- with a Capitol B- pushing ourselves to transcend what we consider “ordinary”- with the understanding that ordinary just isn’t enough. But I think ordinary is just as important.
When we get right down to it - we don’t give ourselves credit for just being enough. Like a jar of everyday buttons placed inside a box - everything is special just as long as we believe that it is. //

TACTILE SIMPLICITY// SDS CAPSULE in hand scraped + classic linen shade//
There’s something about texture that simultaneously provocative and still. It’s undeniably magnetic- the way it draws you in and invites you to experience your surroundings. It’s quiet and it’s potent.
As a child, I spent a lot of time raising myself. Most of those days you could find me, alone, in my room creating/building things from anything I could get my hands on. Legos were a favorite. Lightbrite served as a TelePrompTer for the commercials I’d dream up. Sheets became the gates to imaginary places. Often messy but beautiful building of things.
Objects that connect. Textures that seduce. That’s the tug I’m always gravitating towards.// What’s the thing that’s pulling you?

ADD + SUBTRACT// in process renovation of historic // I’m always one to eliminate visual clutter. In this case - removing an odd niche in the staircase wall and adding panel details to disguise an unsightly storage closet in the arched pass through. (Swipe left)
It’s not that I’m strictly a minimalist designer at heart - rather- it’s that I believe you get the best connection with your space when you can exclude the distractions. After all, it’s the connection to our spaces that we are really reaching for.
Given that dreams will be made here and the biggest days will be celebrated - we’ve chosen to honor the history of this home AND to create a blanket of sophisticated so that when two people become husband and wife or husband and husband this place will embody their visions. // plenty of the white, a good deal of classic texture, and a lot of deceptively simple details. // @ Woodbine Mansion
