“Can I add one of those sweep pans to my central vac?”

I get this question quite often and today’s job is a perfect example of how the process works. The ideal situation is when there is an unfinished basement ceiling underneath the chosen location but this client’s basement was completely finished. I looked around for an alternate solution and found an inlet next to a coat closet. Working from inside the closet I was able to tie into the existing pipework. The new Cansweep works beautifully and inspired a glowing review by the client. Thanks for your kind words Al!

A central vacuum was a must-have for the new owners of this 1890 home in . Definitely one of the coolest projects I’ve worked on so far. It took a little creativity to find room for the main floor outlet, but removing an abandoned heating duct opened up a perfect spot. I’m in love with the paint color of the front room! 😍

Can a retractable vacuum system be installed in an existing home? Quite often the answer is yes! This home was built in 1949 but had plenty of room in the attic and basement to run pipe. The owners were tired of throwing away ineffective cordless vacs and chose the HS6000 Pro by for the main floor, garage and basement. Check out the proud owner taking it for a test drive in the basement…aka ‘babe cave’!

Today’s job, perfect for a post. I’ve always been amused by the “Tinkerbell” logo on these old VacuMaids. This 40 year-old avocado tank still ran, but was replaced by an H-P Products Central Vacuums unit for a huge increase in performance, with much lower noise. Sometimes getting these old systems up and running involves a bit of investigation too. This one wasn’t sealing up, indicating a leak somewhere. Turns out that when some past remodeling had been done, an inlet was removed and the pipe leading to it was left open. Easy fix, and now this client is thrilled with their new system!

My oldest retrofit to date! This 1846 4-level townhouse in Charlestown, MA recently went through a renovation and a central vacuum was a must-have for the new owner.
