Perks of being a small-business owner: Integrity is sometimes better than making a few extra dollars.

I recently billed for a job that went way over the original budget. I put together an invoice asking the client to call me to discuss. The next day, I received an email from the client, who went off on how this was unfair, wasn’t going to pay it all, and asked how I could run a business like this. I calmly responded. I did not demand full payment – I just reiterated that I had asked him to call me to discuss.
