Choosing the right security camera depends on whether you value installation convenience (wireless) or long-term reliability and 24/7 continuous recording (wired).
Wireless Security Cameras
Pros: Easy, DIY-friendly installation. You can place them nearly anywhere without running data or power cables through your walls.
Cons: Prone to Wi-Fi interference and signal dropouts. Battery-powered models require regular recharging, and to save battery, they usually only record motion rather than 24/7.
Wired Security Cameras
Wired (or PoE) cameras use a single Ethernet cable for both power and internet connection. They record directly to a local hard drive, known as a Network Video Recorder (NVR).
Pros: Highly reliable since they are not subject to Wi-Fi dead zones. They offer uninterrupted 24/7 local recording, eliminating the need for recurring cloud storage subscription fees.
Cons: Installation is more labor-intensive, often requiring professional assistance or running cables through walls.
