The Italian artist Isabella Ducrot was born in 1931 and spent many years seeing herself through the eyes of others, in a society that defined her by prescribed roles rather than by her own voice. She traveled widely across countries and cultures, collecting fabrics, paper, and humble objects as if they were a silent memory of the world, long before she ever claimed the title of artist.
In her early sixties, after reaching a deep sense of maturity and inner liberation, Ducrot began her true artistic journey. For her, art was not a search for recognition or fame, but an act of pure freedomโ€”a way to break free from the definitions imposed by others. Her works, created with textiles, paper, and fragile materials, feel timeless, shaped by influences from the East, Asia, and the Mediterranean.
Paradoxically, her widest recognition came in her eighties and nineties, when her work was shown in major international art venues and she collaborated with global fashion houses such as Dior. Today, having passed the age of ninety, Isabella Ducrot continues to create, proving that art does not ageโ€”and that freedom, even when it comes late, arrives in its fullest form.

Japanese designer Yasuhiro Suzuki crafted a striking boat shaped like a giant zipper, creating the illusion of unzipping the water as it moves. Named the โ€œZip-Fastener Ship,โ€ this 9-meter-long vessel was part of the Opening the River art installation at DESIGNART Tokyo 2020.

Designed with a chrome-colored body, bridge, and puller, the boat mimics the look of a real zipper. As it glides along the Sumida River, the wake it leaves behind gives the visual impression of the water being unzippedโ€”symbolically linking both sides of the river. Suzuki conceived the idea after noticing, from an airplane window, that the wake of a ship cutting through Tokyo Bay resembled a zipper pulling apart the sea.
