SMUD Station G is awarded Best Infrastructure Real Estate Project of the Year by the Sacramento Business Journal.

SMUD Station G is a new electrical substation on a 1.3 acre urban in-fill site in downtown Sacramento. Moniz Architecture designed the Control Building facade, and the sculptural panels on the protective perimeter wall around the site. It’s adjacent to the historic Station A, which has operated since the 1940s.
Because of its location on an urban parcel, SMUD made significant efforts to make the design of the substation a pleasing element of the streetscape. This substation includes a fifty-foot-tall control building that abuts the public walkway. The design of this building incorporates a playful and illuminated façade that enlivens the intersection. The protective perimeter wall features massive sculptural panels that provide interest around the entire site.
Two sides of the site have dedicated areas that will be developed as urban parklets in the future.
Moniz Architecture collaborated with Sestak Lighting for the design of specialty exterior lighting.
Moniz Architecture began work on the project in 2010 when we were contracted to make improvements to SMUD’s existing historic Station A. The project evolved and expanded to the adjacent Station G site. Moniz Architecture became a subconsultant to Black and Veatch, the engineer for the new station. Roebbelen Contracting became an integral team member in making the project vision a reality. SMUD’s dedicated team followed through with implementing their commitment to the project vision.

Moniz Architecture and members of the SRBX Board hosted AIA Central Coast Emerging Professionals for an AXP Construction Tour to help them earn experience hours as they work towards their architectural license!

Alicia and Jennifer learned a lot yesterday from the speakers at the AIACV & SMPS joint seminar on how to improve presentation skills!

AIA Central Valley and the Sacramento Chapter of the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) have teamed together to bring in three exceptional presenters for an interactive two-part seminar focusing on presentation skills and “seller-doer” training!

The new Amtrack offices feature an inner cube so that the historic perimeter walls could remain unaltered. Should the needs of the building change, the cube can simply be removed. Pretty cool idea!
