This garlic is proof that sometimes you gotta break the rules. For years we sacrificed garden space to fail at growing soft neck varieties that are supposed to grow best in our Florida heat. This year we took a chance on hard neck elephant garlic and it paid off! We’ll replant the cloves of one, cure the rest, and by the time we’re out of garlic it’ll be time for next years’ harvest!

The peppers and tomatoes have been so prolific this spring! Do you know what these thin curly peppers are? I expected them to be jalapeños but instead I have these sweet little things that seem perfect for stir frys.

We knew garlic scapes were a thing but haven’t seen them in real life until now! Hard neck varieties are the only variety that produces scapes. Typically soft neck garlics do better in our Florida heat but we took a risk on some Elephant garlic and were surprised with scapes this weekend.

We’ll be harvesting these scapes to eat and to encourage the garlic to grow a bulb. Hoping for a successful harvest this fall so we can add another easy to grow plant to our regular inventory!

What a beautiful day it was at 7venth Sun Brewery for our first ever Botanicals and Brews market in Tampa!

We met some awesome new plant people and had refreshing beers in the spring breeze. Looking forward to more Tampa B&Bs soon!

This must be flower weather! We’ve learned so much about growing and propagating flowers this spring. Coral Nymph Salvia and Borage have been a dream and we’re growing lots of new flowers this year!

Nasturtium is both beautiful and edible! The flowers and leaves are a fun addition to your garden salads and taste peppery. They come in almost every color imaginable but this variety, Black Velvet, gets so dark in the heat of summer it looks like your mom’s favorite 90’s dress.
