Spring is the perfect time to combine evergreens and early season perennials in containers. They can both be planted out in the landscape later on or you can keep the evergreens in pots and place them around the garden where you need some extra interest.

Stopped by to visit a past project (18 months ago) and happy to see that everything has grown and is thriving. In another month the tri-trunk birch and japanese maple will have their leaves and the the hydrangeas will be blooming. I will share another photo this summer to share the in season beauty.

Sun King Aurelia is one of my favorite perennials in a shade garden. The chartreuse leaves provide a pop of color against darker leaves like hydrangeas and rhododendrons. I also like to mix them in with blue hostas or blue shadow fothergilla. They can take up a good amount of space growing 3 to 5 ft tall and wide but they can be maintained at the smaller 3 ft size if you prune them.
