Well, now we make cabinets for a boat. The fridge hasn't ever worked. Now it is being replaced by a new tackle center. Just to face it, and make a door.

Odies Deep Oil applied and buffed. Finished floating shelf. Now to decide which is the top and bottom, and hang it. If it is hung high enough, the live edge will face down, showing it off better. That also gives a wider shelf surface on top. Either way it will be a stunning addition to my daughter's new house.

I'll let it cure out overnight, then give it a good luster, by buffing it with Orange Oil and beeswax before hanging. Pictures tomorrow of it installed if time allows.

I am now set up to do floating shelves. Click on the photos to see the process. With a large inventory of Black Walnut slabs in house, there are many that will be great floating shelves.

Got a pretty good pile of gorgeous Live Edge Black Walnut slabs in the shop. They are kiln dried to 6%, and Kiln Conditioned to 8% throughout. If your kiln operator skips the conditioning step, you are stuck with case hardening, and all the issues that result from it. Prices are on each slab reflecting $12/bdft rough sawn, $15/bdft for flattened one side.

Started a floating shelf for my daughter. Used my new slab flattening jig to clean the back side flat. It works way beyond what I thought was possible for a home made setup. I took the one side flattened slab to my mentors shop, to cut off the defective live edge, using his Altendorf saw. Then cleaned the second surface on the planer, with a couple quick passes through the widebelt. Now, just waiting to get the back plate from Sheppards Brackets.

Using the Altendorf to remove a bad live edge, leaving a glue edge perfect wall side of the floating shelf. Great to be able to visit my mentor and use his battleship row machines when needed. His Altendorf, 16" SCMI Jointer, Delta 24" Planer, and 37" Widebelt Sander, is what I affectionately refer to as Battleship Row.

These are kiln dried to 6%, then kiln conditioned to 8% throughout. The most stable hardwood you will find. Message me for a showing. They are moving pretty fast, so don't wait too long. I can also make live edge floating shelves out of your favorite slab. Message me for a quote.

Decided to get a non bench top planer finally. The Dewalt 734 with a Shelix was a great planer, but just not designed for every day usage with lots of bd/ft. Found this on marketplace, actually knew the previous owner. Now, near term, I have a few projects that I will have to use the new planer as is, but hoping to go through it, to restore it to new this winter. A helical head will be part of that hopefully. Probably won't be a Shelix, but a true helical like the Sheartech in my Laguna jointer. They are really proud of those helical heads, but the performance is worth it. Heck, the noise reduction is worth it. Now, have to figure where it will be placed in the shop, so I can run electrical. I hard wire all of my 220 equipment.
