~(Update #2) Snowfall Forecast Friday-Sunday~
A major winter storm is expected to bring significant travel impacts Friday evening, Saturday, and Saturday night. Some travel impacts will probably linger into Sunday. We will be doing a live video around 7:15 PM this evening going in-depth on this system. We will have an updated snowfall forecast before the live video.
A swath of 8-12" of snow is expected with isolated higher amounts, especially along the highway 20 corridor in Iowa and along the WI/IL border. A prolonged period of falling snow up to 24 hours will allow for significant snowfall totals. Snowfall rates up to an inch an hour in the heavier bands is increasingly likely, which could increase amounts even further. A sharp cutoff is expected near the I-90 corridor because of stout dry air from the north, from 10" to just 2-3" just an hour or two apart. On the south side, a nose of warm air will move into southeast Nebraska and northern Missouri, rapidly decreasing amounts.
