DON’T GET SCAMMED
As our 2021 season kicks off we want to give our customers a few things to watch out for and keep you safe and so you don’t get scammed
1. The extra material scam
Be wary of paving & Sealcoating companies stating they are “in the neighborhood” and have extra asphalt or sealcoat ready to repair your driveway for a minimal cost. Professional asphalt contractors know, with great accuracy, how much paving material is needed to complete a project. They will rarely have leftover materials.
2. Cheap prices seems to good to be true
If the quoted price seems very low, chances are the quality of work will be quite low.
Many sealcoating & paving scammers will try to entice customers with deals such as a $99 sealcoating special. These low prices often mean the company is inexperienced and likely using cheap poor materials.
Get at least 2-3 estimates before hiring anyone to compare.
3. Payment demanded up front
There are some cases on big or commercial jobs were the contractor may ask for down payment but in most cases residential and smaller work the job shouldn’t be paid for till job is done and your satisfied with the work.
A reputable company will accept cash, check, card
4. Being pressured
Never hire someone on the spot unless you know the company is reputable. Trustworthy contractors provide a written estimate that will be valid for many days. If you feel that you are being subjected to high-pressure sales tactics, BBB advises you to end the conversation and tell the company you’re not interested.
5. Companies from out of state or area
Many scammers are from out of state that come into a area and are gone as fast as the came.
If their vehicles have out of state plates, no lettering or cheap signage like magnets and out of state phone numbers be aware.
6. Ask for documentation and references
A reputable company will have documentation or license & insurance with in the state of Minnesota or area they are working in.
Ask for references. A reputable company with have references that you can go and refer to see their work.
