From an early age, Sasha was intrigued with space, design, and the idea of creating inspiring forms that would withstand the testament of time.
Originally from Zadar, Croatia, Sasha first came to the Napa Valley at the age of 18 to attend Saint Helena High School as a foreign exchange student. Upon returning home after the school year, Sasha knew he wanted to return and make Saint Helena home.
Graduating with Honors, Sasha received his Masters of Architecture from the University of Belgrade’s School of Architectural Design and Urban Planning. Soon thereafter, he returned to California and embarked on his professional career in the Napa Valley. Whilst beginning his career and family, Sasha also commenced in successfully studying for and taking his board exams to become a licensed architect from California Board of Architects.
Throughout his career, Sasha has been involved with the design and management of many award-winning projects including private residences, Napa Valley wineries and resort properties, both statewide and internationally. His passion for quality design along with his constant drive for perfection allows him to take a client's vision seamlessly through the design process, and bring it to fruition.
For the past decade, Sasha worked closely with Howard Backen as both his mentor and role model, to design some of Napa Valley’s most treasured structures. Following this successful venture with Backen, Gillam and Kroger Architects, Sasha decided to take his career in a new direction -- as lead Principal for SMJ Architecture.
