Charles attended Atelier Venezia taught by Italian modernist Leonardo Ricci and received his Bachelor of Architecture on full scholarship with high honors from University of Kentucky. A travel scholarship enabled him to study in London, Paris and Switzerland where he examined both the modern and ancient architecture which informs his design. He was also introduced to winery design in France while
visiting the Burgundy region. Inspired by the Old World agriculture and architecture, upon returning to Kentucky he trained with a master stonemason. In 2002 he moved to the Napa Valley pursuing an architecture practice close to the land. He worked for six years with Howard Backen designing Ovid Winery and homes featured in Architectural Digest and other publications. Community-oriented work has included a facility for homeless companion and farm animals, an earth-constructed migrant farmworker housing center, designs for Habitat for Humanity and Rural Design Assistance Teams. Helena, California firm in 2010 dedicated to design excellence and client service. A growing number of repeat clients cite their appreciation of his style and professionalism. Successfully completed project types to date include residential, winery, hospitality, agricultural, and commercial buildings.
