Chickadee Gardens

Chickadee Gardens This page is about my blog, chickadeegardens.com, our 2 acre garden in Saint Helens, Oregon. chickadeegardens.com .bsky.social

Chickadee Gardens has moved from a small, green oasis in the urban center of Portland, Oregon, zone 8b, to Saint Helens, some 35 miles outside of Portland to our dream of two acres. Our focus is native plantings but we also love (non-invasive) ornamental plants. Sustainable gardening is our goal. Changes occur regularly in the design of the garden but the focus remains: this garden is for the chic

kadees (and bees, and bugs, and husband, and cats, and...). As I worked for Joy Creek Nursery, I added an amazing array of plants to the gardens. I now work part time for Cistus Nursery, another fabulous local nursery. I propagate a small amount of plants here at Chickadee Gardens. Get in touch for an appointment if you are interested in buying plants from me, this is my private garden. We sell produce and eggs from our garden when available. I also offer garden coaching and some design. Get in touch if interested. [email protected]

On the blog this week, a look around the garden mid-May, one of the busiest times of the year. Lots of flowers and interesting foliage happening, and also anticipating what will probably be a super hot and dry summer, more than usual.

How about a movie about gardening? A movie about the power of gardening - and all it does for humanity - is increasingly reflected back us in so many ways culturally: books, movies, podcasts.

This movie project which came to my attention from my friend LaManda, looks fabulous, thought I'd share.

Just when we need it most!

Playing at Cinema 21 in Portland, starting Thursday April 16th.

On the blog this week, a visit to the Miller Botanical Garden, an absolute favorite. This Seattle garden has very limited access (tickets for the year sell out in minutes), so I feel especially fortunate being able to visit at least twice a year for Great Plant Picks meetings. I hope you enjoy a green, mossy respite in this post as I did visiting.
