Well, the new dahlia seedlings are starting to roll in! For those of you who don't know, every seed that a Dahlia makes is a brand new, never seen before Dahlia (just like people!😉). So if you save seeds from your Dahlia you never know what you're going to get, and what you do get will be the only one ever grown of that particular Dahlia! So these are seeds that I saved from my Dahlia patch last year. Seeds from one dahlia can vary greatly, and may look completely different from one another, but you can increase your chance of getting the type of Dahlia you want by only growing that type of Dahlia. For example I want full Dahlias with loads of petals, not open face style with a single row of petals, so I only grow Fully double dahlias at my house. That way both seed parents have full petals and the babies will be more likely to be full as well. Here is one that has pretty coloring, but unfortunately the bloom is facing downward (see last picture). I will give it another chance, because first blooms can be wonky, so we'll see what the next few blooms bring on this one. What do you think, would you keep this one?
