"A Musician's Halloween Memory"
A true story by Jim Irish Tolck
In the early 1960's, I was playing a strip club on Hennepin Avenue as a drummer - something I always wanted do. It was Halloween evening and I was just about to leave, when some neighborhood kids came to my door wanting "tricks or treats". I said, "I'm sorry I didn't have time to get some candy today." They all replied, "That's okay Jim, just play the piano." So I let them in the house and went to the piano with the kids standing around it waiting for me to play. Not being a piano player, I struggled with some lame version of "When the Saints Go Marching In".
After I was done embarrassing myself, they stared at me and then they all said, "Are you sure you don't have any candy?"
