My name is Bopha Smith, aka “Little Bo-Peep” or “The Bopha-Razzi,” because I’m always behind the camera taking pictures of family, friends, landscapes, birds, bugs, and (especially) my plants. Documenting the gardens throughout the year brings me great joy. I turn some images into greeting cards or other works of art that are sold in local shops. Some of my pictures have won local and national photo contests and sometimes appear on the cover of our local newspaper. My hope with many of my photos is to eventually turn them into watercolor paintings. My photography has recently grown to include more and more “people” (think outdoor family portraits) instead of “plants.” I’ve created this page to emphasize the plants.
In 2007, when we were a young family, we moved from downtown Los Angeles to rural Salem, CT. With no prior gardening experience or knowledge, I stepped out onto our overgrown 4 acre yard and started digging. I was hooked, reading every garden book I could find. Today I have many large garden areas which include some vegetables but mostly flowering perennials. I now have so many plants that I expand into other unconquered parts of the yard. I also enjoy meeting other gardeners to share seeds with; swap plants; and in the spring sell what I have a lot of. (Message me if you’re interested.)
I try to to blend many of my meadow-style gardens with “natives” to compliment the natural landscape. I also believe everyone should “go organic” if possible; definitely compost; consume more “real” food; raise chickens; keep bees; use crushed leaves for mulch is a good idea; spend more time outside enjoying God’s creation; and be the best stewards possible of our land.
