My dad flew Lancaster’s in WW2 with the Royal Australian Air Force , stationed in S E England, and I remember it well because we lived right next to the airstrip in Lincolnshire in 1944 when I was 3.

My depiction of W5005, AR-L for Leader of 460 Squadron RAAF as it appeared at the end of September 1943. The aircraft was notable for its nose art of a kangaroo in Wellington boots playing bagpipes, painted by 460 Squadron Navigator T V (Vic) Watts DFC & Bar - a reflection of the tri-national nature of the crew that commissioned it.

FIFTY OAKS Planned Unit Development is 44 units (22 duplexes) in South Salem at Davis & Liberty S. Featuring abundant common open space and majestic Oak trees and curvilinear private driveways. Construction is almost complete. Moving on this month to the construction of the approved and permitted mixed-use development (retail & residential) at Riverbend & Wallace Rd in West Salem, once again saving the existing large Oak trees, and creating another attractive development of homes and shops. 4 SIMPLE THINGS YOUR TOWN CAN DO RIGHT NOW TO MAKE LIFE EASIER FOR SMALL SCALE DEVELOPERS
1. Simplify the permitting process.
2. Reduce or waive fees for small projects with low impact.
3. Eliminate requirements like minimum lot sizes, parking, floor area ratios and open spaces.
4. Allow duplexes, triplexes, fourplexes and accessory dwelling units in single-family zones by right.

Because it shouldn’t be this hard.

Please Come to the Third Community Workshop for the Hilfiker Park Master Plan on Wednesday, February 28!

Join the City of Salem park planning staff next Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. for the third Hilfiker Park Master Plan Workshop.

We will be presenting the preferred design alternative for the park master plan and discussing how it responds to community feedback. This is also an opportunity for you to speak with the project team one-on-one, ask questions, and provide comments before the draft park master plan advances through a City adoption process.

RIVERBEND MIXED USE PROJECT APPROVED ... The Salem Planning Commission voted on January 2nd. to approve the zone change and comprehensive plan change for this neighborhood commercial development and apartment complex at the NW corner of Riverbend & Wallace in West Salem. Several members of the WSNA West Salem Neighborhood Land Use Committee spoke, and expressed appreciation for the developer's work incorporating neighbors requests into the attractive design, that preserves the Oaks and major trees on this site. The staff report said the proposal met every criteria and recommended approval, and the neighborhood's letter also supported the proposal. Another zone change and development design by Geoffrey James A.I.A. Next step will be detailed Site Plan Review & Design Review.
