Spraying one yard may feel small.
But in the U.S., lawns cover 40 million acres.
When millions of us spray, we create the largest chemical-soaked landscape in the country.

In August, Zone 6 gardeners can focus on planting cool-season vegetables for fall harvests. Good choices include kale, spinach, lettuce, radishes, carrots, and broccoli. You can also plant certain herbs and some flowers. Consider planting garlic, peas, and cover crops to enrich the soil for spring.
Vegetables:
Leafy Greens:
Kale, spinach, lettuce (including romaine), arugula, Swiss chard, and collards are all great choices for cooler weather and shorter days.
Root Vegetables:
Carrots, radishes, beets, and turnips can be planted in August for fall harvests.
Brassicas:
Broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and Brussels sprouts are excellent options for fall planting.
Other Vegetables:
Peas, beans, and Chinese greens can also be planted in August.
Herbs:
Many herbs, like dill, parsley, and cilantro, can be sown in late summer for a fall harvest.
Flowers:
Some flowers can be started in late summer for fall blooms, such as pansies and violas.
Other Considerations:
Cover Crops:
Planting cover crops like rye or clover can help improve soil health for the following spring.
Starting Seeds:
For crops like broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage, you may want to start seeds indoors to give them a head start.

Here at Eden's Gardens we believe in letting the land grow wild. The manicured green lawns just don't support the life that is needed to provide pollinators for the food we grow, and insects for other creatures to eat.

Insects are declining at 1-2% per year in the US, according to research published in PNAS.
That’s 50% of ALL insects gone in less than 30-years.
It might not sound like a lot when you hear 1% per year… but while we continue to soak every inch of this country in roundup and other pesticides, the decline continues.
We have not stopped or stabilized this decline since it began in the 1990s.
And I’m not saying one person can take on big ag where glyphosate is sprayed on millions of acres. Or where milkw**d has been ripped from the ground to make way for GMO crops.
But as everyday citizens, we DO own the ‘largest national park’ in the country: our lawns. It makes up 40 MILLION acres in the US. We absolutely can do something about this - I fully believe it.
If you own a yard, please, PLEASE throw out the roundup this year. Let a section go wild. Manage ‘w**ds’ the way people did for thousands of years - rip them out of the ground with your hand! Americans would rather stand upright with a bottle and nozzle than bend over to pull something out of the ground.
And if you don’t want to do it for the bugs, do it for your family or your pets. Roundup is cancerous. It seeps into the water. It poisons the critters you never intended to poison.
Use your HANDS and BODY! Or a tractor. Anything but the poison that’s stripping the world of life.
Consider learning about the plants you consider to be w**ds, many of them pack more nutrients than you realize and many of them are beneficial for your health.

You can make a difference with the tiniest bit of land. We all can!

Times have changed and not for the good. People used to value the dandelion, now it is defined as a w**d and killed so they can have a green lawn that is not good for anything but looks. Maintained as a status symbol using poison. Poison that kills pollinators and plants that are good for food and pleasant to the eyes It is time we got back to our roots and started appreciating what the earth produces for our health. That which is good for food and pleasant to the eyes.

This post is many weeks overdue, but I broke my elbow the day before doing the garden!

We hired Lucas and Amanda to help us with a garden this year! Not having any experience in gardening, we thought it well worth our money to call on the experts. And boy was it ever!

Their business plan can help you from anywhere and just consulting to completely putting the garden together for you and everywhere in between.

Here are some of the ways that they helped us.

*They came out to assess our land, help us know where to place our beds, and understand all of our wants for the garden.

* They helped us understand what vegetables go well together and other flowers and spices to help word off pests.

* they were willing to purchase all of the products we want them to purchase for us.

* they connected us with a guy who made amazingly beautiful raised beds.

* they were willing to be flexible due to weather.

* they came with extra materials to help the garden thrive.

*They were very hands-on, which, of course was super helpful with my broken arm .

*They took the time to teach us as we were doing it.

*They have since reached out, asking how the garden is doing, telling us when to cover the plants because of cold weather and reminding us about water and feeding them.

*They love Jesus and are doing this as a mission for him and are willing to be flexible with prices when people can’t truly pay.

I cannot recommend their service enough!

If you are already a gardening pro, just know that there are people out there like me that were not!

Please share this post and share their company with your friends!

Let’s help this amazing small business grow!
