Architectural Nexus

Architectural Nexus A multi-disciplinary, people-driven design firm practicing throughout the western United States.

The word Nexus has Latin origins and means joining, binding, or connecting. We anticipate an expansion of this definition as we "connect" with you our client, as we "connect" with new technology, creative design ideas, and better ways of expediting the design and construction process.

We are saddened by the passing of Karen Huntsman. Karen's thoughtful engagement in the recent developments of the Kathryn F Kirk Center and the vision for the Huntsman Vineyard Campus, as well as her influence throughout the many phases of the Huntsman Cancer Institute over the past 30 years left a lasting impact. Her generous donations of personal artwork enriched these spaces in meaningful ways. She shared her opinions candidly, yet always with appreciation for the care and effort invested in the design process. Most of all, she was deeply passionate about carrying forward the Huntsman purpose. We are grateful for her influence, her generosity, and the legacy she leaves behind.

AIA Utah's annual CANstruction competition challenges teams of architects, engineers, and contractors to design and build large-scale sculptures made entirely from canned food. Blending creativity, engineering, and community impact, it has become a highly anticipated event in Utah's AEC industry. Following the competition, every can is donated to the Utah Food Bank.

Teams spend months developing concepts, creating construction plans, coordinating volunteers, and sourcing thousands of cans. On Build Day, they have just a few hours to transform those cans into impressive structures that are judged on creativity, engineering, aesthetics, and technical ex*****on.

This year, Architectural Nexus partnered with Dunn Associates, Inc. and Layton Construction to create "Fueling the Future: 250 Years of American CAN-do." Inspired by the America 250 theme and celebrating the recent Artemis II mission, the sculpture featured a moon-landing scene complete with a towering rocket. Built from 5,900 cans, it was the largest installation in this year's competition.

All eight sculptures are currently on display in public buildings throughout Salt Lake County. Community members are invited to visit the installations and vote for their favorite. You can visit the Arch Nexus team’s installation at the Salt Lake County Government Building through July. Award winners will be announced in early August.

We're beyond thrilled to announce that the Advanced Veterinary Surgery Center at UC Davis was awarded LEED Gold Status! This project is a state of the art orthopedic facility providing key services for our beloved animal friends.

The award comes as a result of the remodeled interior and exterior work performed on the building. Great care was taken to provide sustainable, energy-efficient materials. This has resulted in a welcoming, cost-effective facility for all pet-patients and their human companions.

We're proud of our team, and the dedicated staff at UC Davis Vet Med for this amazing achievement!
