I’ve successfully — and unintentionally — grown oyster mushrooms at the base of my peach tree and Texas persimmon! When I planted the Texas persimmon, I added a spent mushroom block into the planting hole to encourage the development of mycelium networks in the soil. The goal was to support the roots of my fruit trees with beneficial fungi.
After planting, I mulched the area with two layers: a base layer of leaves, followed by a top layer of arborist wood chips. With a consistent watering schedule, I created the perfect conditions for the mycelium to thrive — and eventually, it rewarded me with fruiting bodies... in other words, mushrooms!
I was able to harvest fresh oyster mushrooms right from my garden and enjoy them in a delicious meal.
