Elevating the workplace experience from the ground up 🌿

After being engaged to develop the master plan for Dominion’s new headquarters, OJB Landscape Architecture seamlessly transitioned into bringing a contemporary vision to life—one that integrates architecture, ecology, and the public realm.

The 20-story, 908,000 SF Class A office tower is more than a workplace—it’s an urban ecosystem. From the entry plaza and activated streetscape to the expansive one-acre roof garden, every element was designed with performance and experience in mind.

A planting strategy rooted in regional ecology prioritizes native and adaptive species, developed in collaboration with local horticulturalists and guided by city urban design standards. Nuttall Oaks line the streetscape, selected for their resilience in urban conditions, while layered understory plantings and shade gardens introduce texture and seasonality at every level—including a sunken garden designed for low-light environments.

Above it all, the level 3 roof garden offers a dynamic amenity space—outdoor dining, fitness, flexible seating, and a botanical pathway woven through native perennials that evolve throughout the seasons.

With a full block of streetscape improvements and a commitment to sustainability recognized through LEED Gold certification, this project reflects a holistic approach to urban design—where landscape is not an afterthought, but a driving force.

At Avenue of the Stars, the workplace extends beyond the walls.

Designed by OJB Landscape Architecture, this reimagined campus weaves a network of interior-exterior pathways through five acres of Mediterranean planting—creating a fluid circulation system that prioritizes connectivity, comfort, and movement.

Meandering walkways, shaded corridors, and layered planting zones guide users between terraces, AV-enabled workstations, and outdoor meeting pods—supporting a spectrum of work styles from focused tasks to collaborative exchange. These pathways aren’t just circulation—they’re experience, offering moments of pause, privacy, and restoration throughout the day.

By integrating technology with landscape, the project leverages Los Angeles’ temperate climate to redefine workplace performance—where productivity is enhanced by access to nature, and the boundary between indoors and out is intentionally blurred.

Elevated living, redefined in Boston.

At South Station Tower, the 11th-floor Sky Park by Landscape Architecture transforms nearly an acre of space into a living, breathing landscape in the sky—designed not just as an amenity, but as an experience.

120 feet above the city, this verdant oasis offers residents a rare intersection of nature and urban life: morning yoga under open sky, midday resets surrounded by greenery, and evening strolls woven through lush lawns and tree canopies. It’s a place where wellness isn’t scheduled—it’s embedded.

Beyond the landscape itself, the Sky Park becomes a platform for connection. Seasonal programming, from mindfulness sessions to live music and farmers markets, activates the space—bringing moments of discovery and community into everyday life.

Paired with the elevated living experience of The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Boston, South Station Tower, this project sets a new benchmark for how cities can serve their residents: by carving out meaningful, restorative space within the skyline.

A park in the sky. A new rhythm for city living.

Downtown Cary Park has been named a finalist for the 2026 A+ Awards in Public Parks & Green Spaces and Architecture + Community categories.
Recognizing exemplary work in contemporary design across the globe.

Located in the heart of Cary, the 7-acre park was conceived as part of a long-term strategy to strengthen the downtown core while enhancing everyday public life. Designed by OJB Landscape Architecture, the project transforms a significant elevation change into a layered sequence of outdoor rooms—balancing recreation, relaxation, and civic gathering within a highly active urban center.

Since opening in November 2023, the park has welcomed more than 750,000 visitors in its first year, becoming a true civic anchor for the community. With native planting rooted in the Piedmont ecology, integrated water features, and flexible spaces for events and daily use, it continues to support both downtown vitality and ecological resilience.

We’re honored to see the project recognized among this year’s best. Vote at the link in bio.

OJB Landscape Architecture Advances Conceptual Landscape Plans for
Washington Commanders Stadium.

A “stadium in a park” vision takes shape: rooted in the region’s riverfront ecology and designed to support community health, daily recreation, and year-round gathering.

OJB Landscape Architecture has developed a landscape vision for the new Washington Commanders stadium and surrounding district, establishing an immersive, resilient public realm that celebrates the natural beauty of the Washington, D.C., area. Conceived as a true “stadium in a park,” the plan pairs HKS’s design for the Commanders’ new home with OJB’s sweeping network of lawns, groves, promenades, and plazas that invite movement, play, and connection on game days
and ordinary days alike.

The landscape is organized as a robust, adaptable sequence of outdoor rooms – cool and shaded in summer, bright and walkable in winter, and animated by the colors of spring and fall. These spaces expand to welcome the energy of stadium events and contract to match the rhythms of everyday neighborhood life, offering paths for a lunchtime loop, places to meet friends, and calm pockets for rest and reflection. Native and climate-resilient plantings strengthen habitat, manage stormwater, and create comfort at the ground plane. Blurring the boundary between the stadium and the city, the landscape is walkable and resilient.

“We’re designing a landscape around the stadium that feels inseparable from Washington’s park and riverfront experience,” said Jim Burnett, FASLA, founder of OJB Landscape Architecture. “The goal is a civic place that can hold the excitement of game day but also supports community health and well-being every day: spaces to walk, gather, play, recharge, and celebrate. It will offer something for everyone, in every season.”

Designing for play, and being recognized for it 🎉

We’re proud to celebrate The Nest at Downtown Cary Park and Lewis and Clark Landing Adventure Playground—named the  #2 and #5 Top Playgrounds in the U.S. in a nationwide poll.

Brought to life by OJB Landscape Architecture, these spaces are designed to spark imagination, encourage movement, and create moments of connection across all ages. From climbable structures to immersive environments, every detail is rooted in the idea that play is essential infrastructure.

It’s work like this that reminds us—creating places for fun is serious design.

A thoughtful brand evolution rooted in landscape and architecture.

In partnership with OJB, Proportion Design worked closely with founder James Burnett, partners, and team members across their six offices to develop a cohesive brand strategy and identity system designed to carry the firm forward for years to come.

From public parks to campuses and workplaces, OJB’s work continually connects people with the simple beauty of nature—balancing access with sustainability. That harmony is reflected in the firm’s refined identity.

At the center of the system is the OJB monogram. Built from an underlying grid, the custom typography is a crafted mark combining clean lines with subtle curves. The mark is rooted in clarity and comprehension, evoking the craft and character of the design practice.

This visual framework now extends across the firm’s communications, including the design of OJB’s latest monograph published by Phaidon, Envisioning Landscapes, where the color and type identity system provides structure and restraint, allowing the landscapes themselves to take focus.

OJB’s latest monograph is now available for purchase. Link in bio.

OJB’s Discovery Playground at Lewis & Clark Landing has been nominated for Best Public Park by USA TODAY!

At the south end of the park, Discovery Playground redefines what play can be. Towering climbing structures, a zipline, rope courses, and a log forest invite risk-taking and exploration, while interactive water and sand zones create a fully immersive environment for all ages.

Accessibility is integral—not an afterthought. With transfer systems, wheelchair-accessible ramps that spiral to elevated river views, and inclusive play elements throughout, the space ensures every child can engage in discovery.

OJB’s impact goes beyond play. Built on a remediated industrial site, the design transforms constraint into opportunity—concealing a seven-foot floodwall within an urban beach, restoring connection to the Missouri River, and creating a landscape that supports both ecological systems and community life.

This is more than a playground—it’s a rethinking of public space through the lens of access, imagination, and resilience.
