Amanda was honored to have been asked to share her experience as an alumna of UTSA’s Master of Architecture & Certificate of Historic Preservation and how she benefited from the Conservation Society Endowed Professorship position held by William Dupont. The Conservation Society is celebrating their centennial this year and celebrated 30 years of the Conservation Society Professorship at UTSA this past Saturday.

As we close out this month, we also close out our first year of being in business! We held our annual meeting and took the team out for a nice lunch to celebrate. We reflected on this past year, set goals, and made big plans for the next 365 days. Thank you to our friends & family and clients for believing in us and supporting us this past year.

Project Spotlight: Keller Remodel

We love a good before & after! This post-war bungalow needed some TLC. The clients wanted to maintain the historic charm but adapt it to fit today’s style of living. Adding a second bathroom, incorporating a master closet, and connecting the living spaces were priorities for this young family. We strategically widened existing openings, which allowed visual connection from the front entry to the back of the house. We exposed original shiplap and brick as design features and reused existing trim for new openings to blend the original with the new. Creating a dining room from an enclosed porch and centering the kitchen around a new island allowed us to create a spot for family to gather all together at the heart of the home.

Our Process in Action 🎬

🌀1. RE-VIEW - Utilizing 360 camera technology, we document the “before.” By not limiting ourselves to fixed views, we capture the entire space and its quirks, saving time and enhancing our understanding of the existing conditions.

⬜️ 2. RE-CREATE - Converting the 360 images and field measurements into a dynamic 3D digital model sets the stage for transformation. The as-built model is a blank canvas, awaiting our strokes of creativity and innovation.

🎨 3. RE-IMAGINE - Incorporating the new design and material selections into the 3D model, we are able to explore multiple possibilities. It’s here we refine, adjust, and elevate the design, envisioning the project’s full potential.

💫 4. RE-FRAME - Witnessing conceptual designs becoming reality during construction is magical. It’s the ultimate validation when the end result exceeds our client’s expectations and dreams.

GX2’s next CEU was in conjunction with the A4LE South Texas Chapter Event hosted at ESC Region 20. Erin Ortwein with Corhan gave an informative summary of the updated Texas Education Agency’s Safety Standards. “Safety is not convenient” in our schools but it’s very important.

GX2 had a busy week lunching and learning! Thanks to Dr. Lauren Gant with Allsteel for presenting Trauma Informed Design for the February IIDA San Antonio CEU hosted by Core Office Interiors. It was eye opening to see how designing spaces for reregulation creates an inclusive design for all. We’re used to designing for “Universal Design” which creates a single experience without adaptation. “Inclusive Design” means multiple solutions with equitable outcome.
