Overland Partners

Overland Partners Founded in 1987, Overland Partners is a creative, international community of problem-solvers. Through this experience, visitors become participants.

Overland fosters collaborative relationships and a discovery process that pushes architecture beyond aesthetics and shelter. This gives rise to places that tell stakeholders' collective story. They find voice for their own stories. They are changed. Architecture is our means to articulate visions and ideas that pull communities together. In turn, it helps to repair rifts and establish platforms t

o reach our collective aspirations. Our projects bring people back into relationships with the land, their history and each other. We work every day to live up to our mission, “Modeling how we should live and influencing the world through the practice of architecture.”

Reflecting on our collaboration with Project MEND, we designed their Headquarters and Fulfillment Facility, a landmark project that has reshaped the landscape of care in San Antonio. This facility, standing as the largest medical equipment reuse center in the United States, symbolizes innovation and compassion.

Combining a warehouse, a cutting-edge refurbishment center, and efficient offices, the facility is more than just a structure. It embodies our shared vision of accessibility and empowerment for individuals with disabilities and illnesses. Strategically located for ease of access, it serves as a pivotal resource in the community, offering hope and independence to its clients.

This project exemplifies how thoughtful architecture can profoundly impact a community, creating spaces where functionality, care, and empowerment intersect. Our partnership with ProjectMEND has not only yielded a remarkable facility but has also strengthened community bonds, showcasing the transformative power of design in enhancing lives.

On March 16, 1960, Kress department store made history by opening its basement lunch counter to Black customers for the first time. Now more than six decades later, the San Antonio African American Community Archive & Museum (SAAACAM), has become the proud owner of the entire Kress building and the adjacent Grant building on East Houston Street.

Overland Partners is proud to be a part of this historic project. Together, we look to transform these historic buildings into a vibrant cultural center and archive that not only honors the past but also serves as a hub for education, inspiration, and celebration of the rich African American history in our community. Learn more in this story by the San Antonio Report.

The vacant Kress and Grant buildings will become home to the San Antonio African American Community Archive and Museum.

This past Tuesday, Overland was pleased to attend the Grand Opening and Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for Phase 1 of Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. This ambitious project, spearheaded by our visionary client Jennifer Rominiecki and supported by the generous philanthropy of the local community, continues the legacy of Selby’s original mission of connecting people with nature and propels it into the 21st century with the design of this new facility.

The iconic new Welcome Center greets guests as an open-air pavilion adorned with plants, which orients people to the experience they are about to encounter with the Gardens.

The new Plant Research Center serves as a home for all of Selby’s employees and volunteers while simultaneously serving as the heart of scientific research and botanical collections for the Gardens.

The Living Energy Access Facility, or L.E.A.F. for short, turns the idea of a parking garage on its head by transforming it into a piece of green infrastructure. The 50,000 sf rooftop solar array will power the entire campus of buildings and generate a surplus of energy that will be pumped back into the grid. This will offset over 1,000 tons of cardon dioxide every year… equivalent to powering 150 American homes annually or planting nearly 15,000 trees. This innovative approach will make Selby Gardens the World’s First Net Positive Energy Botanical Complex.

On the ground level, a new restaurant called the Green Orchid, will be the World’s First Net Positive Energy Restaurant as well and serve world-class cuisine to guests. All of which will be prepared in the fully electric kitchen powered by the on-site solar array and with ingredients grown on the rooftop culinary garden.

These and many other strategies will make Selby a new global leader in sustainable botanical gardens and serve as a model of abundance and resilience for generations to come.

Celebrate with us as we embrace a new era for Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. To learn more about the events celebrated yesterday read more here: https://bit.ly/3RWE8FX.

Our Dallas office team members stepped out of their usual design spaces to embrace a festive challenge at Gingertown 2023! This unique holiday event, open to all, brought together creative minds from across the city - architects, engineers, contractors, and more - to build a charming gingerbread town, all in the spirit of giving.

Kudos to our Overland stars - Priscilla Almendariz, Mitzy Belen Gonzalez, Edith Gomez, and Sarah Cu***ng - for their exceptional talent and enthusiasm at this community-focused event. Their gingerbread creations not only added to the holiday charm but also supported the Children’s Craniofacial Association.

Join us in celebrating the collaborative spirit of Gingertown, where every gingerbread wall and rooftop crafted by our team symbolizes joy, community, and the true essence of the holiday season!

We realized a major milestone this week in the Rio Grande Valley with the groundbreaking of the new Center for Urban Ecology at Quinta Mazatlán yesterday! An international living laboratory at the intersection of ecotourism and education in McAllen, Texas, this project is a pivotal step towards realizing Quinta Mazatlán's mission of enriching lives through environmental stewardship and education. The P.A.L.M. House, situated at the heart of this project, is designed to be a net positive habitat, promoting nature appreciation and sustainability for all ages. It's a significant milestone in creating an international gateway to world-class birding and nature experiences, merging innovative design with ecological sensitivity.

Overland Project Principal Rick Archer and Yanjing Chen were on site for the celebration. Thank you to our collaborators on this highly sustainable, transformational project including Megamorphosis Design (AOR), Christy TenEyck (Landscape Architect), and Spawglass (Contractor), the City of McAllen, and all the community members who worked hard to bring this project to life!
