Many businesses are opening up and it is important to keep commonly touched surfaces clean. Door handles and keypads are frequently touched areas that can spread various diseases. If you are unable to leave doors open, here are some tips to safely clean these objects.
Do’s:
- Use surface cleaners that are safe on plastic electronic appliances like remote controls, key switches, computer mouse & keyboards.
- Clean with premoistened wipes or microfiber clothes that have already been sprayed with cleaning solutions. We recommend cleaning solutions like Lysol, Clorox Wipes, or a mixture of soap and warm water.
- Target all door handles and keypads commonly touched.
- Surface should be visibly wet and allowed to air-dry.
Don’ts
- DO NOT use bleach as it can react with metals or cause corrosion.
- AVOID high alkaline cleaners including sodium carbonate, sodium hydroxide, and ammonia, because these can damage metals and plastics. These chemicals are commonly found in Pine Sol, 409, and some Lysol products. Be sure to check the ingredients of your cleaning supplies before use.
- DO NOT use abrasive means such as steel wool or scouring pads to scrub the surfaces.
- AVOID spraying cleaning solutions directly onto the product. Instead, spray onto a microfiber cloth.
- DO NOT apply solutions in direct sunlight because this can damage the protective coating on door handles and keypads.
