Our Garden 🌶️🪾🍅🫑

I’m so excited to be back in a proper climate! I can grow citrus, avocados, bananas, plantain, dragonfruit like all types of food! I can grow perennials that don’t have to die and come back, just everlasting.. growing all year long! Omg the flowers! The herbs! See, I had the vision I just needed the platform 🤣

So far we have planted 2 Japanese plum trees, a peach tree, a blackberry bush, tomatoes, squash, peppers and some herbs. What else should we grow? What’s your favorite edible or medicinal plants??

AND WE’RE BACK! 🏡🐓🌴🌱🌳

After a couple months of house hunting, we found our place to root again. Back in zone 9 where I can grow anything I want because it’s Southern California!

It’s an older home that needs love, meaning a rehab. But I love it tho! Checked everything off our list like close proximity to our parents, good neighborhood, a space for Nasi to play, a space I can grow food and space for leisure.

Grateful for the journey that brought us here and excited for everything we’ll build next.

Welcome to the next chapter. 🤎

Sweet Corn • Tomatillos 🌽🍅

Harvested 5 ears of corn this morning! It’s better for me to harvest before the harsh sun comes! I’m gonna give the smaller ears another week or so to grow in size before I pull all of the stalks up. Also, I’m slicing and freezing these tomatillos for salsa verde. They are also pretty good freshly sliced in salads. What y’all got growin?

New Baby Chicks 🐥🥚

Our hens got attacked by-idek what yet, but my suspicion is towards a neighborhood cat that frequents our backyard. We found one hen’s body mangled & the other w/o a trace…only feathers left behind. The only hen left was our Rhode Island Red and she has been so stressed and lonely. We decided to get more chicks. Lost 2, gained 4. Rip to the dead homies, but like all things life must go on. We have gratitude for the food they provided & are positive they lived a nice life here. We hope are our hen will be a mother figure to the new chicks and find some companionship

Yuhaaviatam 💚🌿

The indigenous Serrano lived on and farmed this land long before we ever could. They are now known as The San Manuel Mission Indians. Their land was taken from them, through blood. It was colonized, sold for profit & redlined into city plots. We bought it via a bank & now we homestead here. Full stop❗️

It’s important to recognize where you are to be able to respect what should be done here. I grow the same things the Serranos grew because I know it can survive here. Indigenous knowledge is a gold mine and if we’re gonna be here, we should respectfully honor it. We are having the worse drought and large scale farmers say there is not enough water and their crops are dying— NO there is not enough water for YOU to grow non native plants to exploit to make a profit from! 🙄

The dry heat of the summer in the Mojave Desert means that corn, squash, beans, tomatoes & tomatillos are gonna be our heavy producers! Grateful to be here and acknowledge National Indigenous History Month. We honor the people that could not be massacred into non existence. We recognize that we have no right to be here. We will respect their land that we occupy ✊🏿

JUNETEENTH Harvest❤️🖤💚

Happy Juneteenth Family!! It’s been 156 years since the enslaved were freed, but we know there were some held in captivity long after 1865! Nonetheless, we celebrate our freedom that we fought for! We remember those we have lost, and we anticipate those who are to come! I love my people deeply! Against all odds, we have flourished in this generation and don’t allow anyone to tell you differently! Protect yourselves and each other. Love on one another & Remember it is always a good day to be Black 🤎✊🏿

This Morning’s Abundance ✨

Every morning I go feed the chickens, collect the eggs & see what the garden will bring to our table for dinner. Today, we have some Bell peppers, Little Sicily green tomatoes, radish, carrot greens, arugula, beet greens & fresh eggs. We had some collard greens too, but I ended up givin them to the chickens before I remembered to take a pic lol
