These pictures show you how important lathing is to a house.
The previous stucco contractor stopped the weep screeds where the plywood ended. But, in this situation it was way too high, especially for the entrance of this new home being built.
The homeowner agreed and allowed us to bring the weep screeds down. Code calls 2 inches about hard scape, and 4-6 inches about soft scape.
Their is a different just doing a job, and caring how it looks when it's done.
Take pride in your work.
It's definitely is more work required, but worth it.

Before 1960's cement was allowed to go down to the ground.
Did you notice I didn't say "Stucco!"
Home's were built with 2 cement applications called the Scratch coat and the Brown coat.
The Scratchcoat was applied over the chicken wire or Lathing application and scored using what looks like a tile scratcher.
This application was and still is applied at 3/8" and cured, or let dry for 48 hrs to harden.
Then the second cement application was applied at 1/2" and made flat with the trowel.
The brown coat received its name from an interior application of plaster and sand mixture called hard wall.
When the brown sand was mixed with the white plaster it would dry brown. Thus the name, Brown coat is the name of the second cement application.
When the brown coat would begin to surface dry, it was brushed with large brushes to bring out the sand. Most houses built before 1960 were built like this.
Then after 1960 Stucco was introduced.
These pictures show how a patch was blended into the existing cement .

Happy Holy Week.
This April 1st.will mark the 37th year of Nick DeRosa Plastering.
I started this business by God's Grace and a lot of prayer. I can not say it's been all wine and roses, more like a roller-coaster. Many different people have helped me and my business. God first and my wife Dina second.
My guys, like my partner Dicky when we started Nick & Dick.
Billy Wannacott, Mikey G, Eric A.K.A. Flow Sorina, my brother Bob, Francisco Alvarez, Rolando, Jose Torres, Elit Sanchez, Chuey, and Rick Bibby my buddy.
Oh Yeah, me Nick DeRosa Jr.
Their have been so many contractors and homeowners over these 37 years.
A big thank you you all.

I am quickly approaching 67 this year.
Started in the Plastering trade 1979.
If you do the math that is 47 years in this trade. Just numbers of my life.
Physically, Mentally, Emotionally, it has been a blessing.
I am looking forward to new beginnings.
The next chapter.
Thank you to everyone.
