AIA26 brought the architecture community to our home turf, and San Diego delivered.
Our founder, Margit Whitlock, spent the conference as a local volunteer, which turned out to be the best seat in the house. There is something clarifying about showing your city to thousands of architects from around the world. From giving directions, to pointing people toward the best pizza, to watching them fall for San Diego the way we did years ago, it was a week of playing concierge to the whole industry.
It was also a reminder of why we do this work. The seminars and tours set a high bar, the exhibit hall stayed packed every day, and the conversations kept circling back to where design is headed. There was real energy around AI and technology, and just as much excitement about the materials starting to shape what we build next.
We came away proud to be architects and energized by a room full of creative, forward-thinking people. Thank you to AIA San Diego and the AIA26 team for an event that did our city justice.
If you were there, what stood out most to you?
