Are your trees growing into your overhead service lines (CATV, AT&T and/or SDG&E) to your home? You have a few options to consider.
1. Trim tree branches clear of the service line(s). (It is highly advisable to have a professional trim trees near high voltage SDGE lines.)
2. Call the service provider(s) to assess the situation. You can request a tree assessment from SDG&E. CATV and ATT do not have such a service, but can move the service line if possible. SDGE can also move a service line if possible and likely for a fee.
3. Remove the tree (call an Arborist)
4. Get ahead of things and remove trees before they are too tall.
5. Find out how tall new trees will grow before planting to avoid issues with service lines.
6. Look up, down and around before planting. Knowing existing conditions to the surrounding new plant site will dictate what to plant and avoid conflicts e.g., overhead service lines, rooflines, fencing, foundation (cracking), sidewalk (root uplifting damage), underground utilities conduit damage.

If your services are underground and tree roots are causing a problem, always call your provider for an assessment. Note, if the tree/plants in question are on your property, cost to rectify things will be at your expense.

This guy or gal has been with us for years, at least 7 years. 6 years ago this month I held her. She wasn’t very happy about it. If she ain’t the original yard dinosaur, and it could be given their life span can be 15 years, it surely is her offspring. She came to us in some bambo I picked up in another part of town. She measures about 14”+/-.

The old Golden Barrel Cactus finally has an empty nest.

Lulo Eco harvested 18 pups today. It’s not the season to do so, but priority in space necessitated the action. Hopefully they will have healthy scaring and will take to replanting.

Thanks old GBC for your kin.

How might this be done, you ask?
A long knife to cut the stem, gloves and a prybar will do the trick. Freshly cut pups require scaring over the cut area before planting. If not allowed to properly scar, they will rot and end up in a total loss of the plant.
