One of the most common questions we hear is:

"Don't swimming pools use a lot of water?"

The answer surprises many homeowners.

In California, outdoor landscaping is often one of the largest sources of residential water use. In fact, studies have shown that replacing a lawn with a pool and surrounding hardscape can use significantly less water than maintaining the same area of irrigated turf.

Modern pools are designed to recirculate and filter the same water continuously. The biggest source of water loss is typically evaporation, which is why pool covers can make such a difference. The City of San Diego even recommends pool covers as a water-saving measure.

Like many things, efficiency comes down to proper design, maintenance, and responsible water use.
