What we found on this job site was honestly shocking. The previous owner built an add-on to this house that was literally sitting on cinder blocks. Not proper structural support. Not safe. Just stacked cinder blocks holding up part of the home.

That is not only extremely dangerous for the homeowners, but it’s also the type of thing that drives Kevin crazy because this is exactly what happens when people cut corners instead of doing things the right way.

A lot of homeowners never even realize these problems exist until walls start cracking, floors start sagging, or something seriously fails. That’s why remodeling and structural work is about way more than just making a house look nice. It’s about making sure your home is actually safe to live in.

The only time we typically do change orders during a remodel is when we uncover something unexpected behind the walls or under the house once construction begins. We avoid unnecessary change orders by spending a lot of time planning with our clients before the project starts, making sure we fully understand their vision, needs, and goals from the beginning. This is what a full teardown remodel looks like just 2 1/2 weeks in. We removed all of the interior walls and started trenching for the new plumbing, structural support walls, and foundation work. One of the most important parts of a remodel like this is making sure the new foundation is properly tied into the existing foundation the right way so the entire structure is safe, stable, and built to last.

A lot of the most important work during a home remodel happens before the finished materials ever go in. The structural planning, trenching, plumbing, and foundation work are what set the project up for long term quality and safety.

Remodeling a kitchen comes with a lot more planning than most people realize. Something as simple as moving a sink from one side of the kitchen to another requires proper plumbing design, drainage planning, pipe slope calculations, and making sure everything is installed correctly behind the walls and under the floor. If the drain lines are not set at the proper slope, water will not flow correctly and it can create major plumbing issues later on. The addition on this house was built on almost nothing. When we opened up the walls, we found sections literally sitting on cinderblocks without a proper foundation underneath them, which made the structure extremely unsafe. This project originally started as a smaller remodel, but once we uncovered what was really going on behind the walls, it became clear that major structural issues needed to be addressed to make the home safe and properly built.
