After long and aggravating delays by San Diego Development Services Department and San Diego Gas & Electric (SDGE), we are THRILLED to see framing completed on this dynamic Accessory Dwelling Unit in San Diego's upscale Mission Hills neighborhood. Just two blocks from our San Diego Design Studio (and Ehm Family Home South), the project features a 792 square foot living area over a one-car garage with a surfboard fabrication shop.

A spiral stair will lead to a steel bridge which provides access to the roof deck. We are excited to see the roof top views of Point Loma, San Diego International Airport, San Diego Bay and hopefully a glimpse of the Pacific Ocean beyond!

We'll report back on that soon -- when we get up on the deck.

🍇A Look at What Might Have Been: Cordiano Winery Bed & Breakfast in Escondido, California!

Imagine the sun setting over the rolling vineyards in San Diego County's backcountry. You glance toward the lively patio bar, where guests and locals enjoy the fine wines and gourmet appetizers. Traditional music wafting from the Ballroom leads you to the conclusion that a wedding will be held tomorrow, and looking back toward the wine bar you spot a group which you think could be the wedding party. At this moment, you are right where you want to be.

🌇Our journey in design of this long-desired facility began with reverence for the past, and culminated in our vision for the future. At the heart of this endeavor lay the transformation of a single-story farmhouse, which two decades ago served as a cornerstone of the vintner's history. We crafted what was to be a memorable venue in a timeless structure which evokes the vintner's Italian heritage.

Sadly, this project was abandoned by the vintner and resides in our cadre of compelling but unbuilt projects. Perhaps this design could be adapted to capture your vision, to build your legacy, or to present your own special venue to the world. We raise a glass to your spirit, and eagerly anticipate the honor to helping you create something truly extraordinary.

✨ Exciting Architectural Masterpiece in Mission Hills! ✨

We're thrilled to share another success story from Ehm Architecture! This multi-story modern home with its sleek grey aesthetic and stunning swimming pool has not only captured hearts but also set real estate sales records. Designed by Architect Randal Jay Ehm in 1989, this home has since undergone three remodels under new ownership (also designed by Randal), each enhancing its charm and functionality.

It's a privilege to see this project set the record three times for the highest sales price in San Diego’s upscale Mission Hills neighborhood. The original owner, the late Real Estate Developer Robert Lawrence, brought a vision that continues to inspire. Rest in peace, Bob!

After completing the design of a large oceanfront home in 1990, Randal was engaged by a neighboring couple to design a subterranean addition to their 3-story home two doors north.
The aging owners’ desire for a hydraulic residential elevator from the main floor to the existing basement, and on down to the Family Room at beach level, evolved into the dream of a Family Room complete with full bar, ice cream parlor area, shuffleboard table, billiards table and an outdoor “pirate ship” play structure for the grandkids.
What began as a simple a journey to the beach for the elderly couple became an odyssey – and quite an adventure! Today, the entire family still loves and embraces Randal’s incredible expression of Al and Cora’s longtime vision! Al has passed on to his well-deserved place in Heaven, while Cora recently celebrated her 90th birthday with a family reunion and party that Al would’ve been proud of.

🏗✨ Exciting Update on Randal Ehm's Architectural Stadium Village Project! 🏢🌵

In 2015, Randal Ehm embarked on a journey with a Phoenix contractor to explore the potential of a property in Surprise, Arizona. Fast forward to 2024, and he’s thrilled to share the transformation of this once dormant project into a vibrant mixed-use community!

After extensive research and zoning analysis, we envisioned a mixed-use development featuring 388 apartments and 20,000 sq. ft. of retail space, perfectly situated near Surprise's renowned sports complex. From hand-drawn sketches to intricate floor plans, every detail was meticulously crafted. But setbacks hit hard, and the project seemed destined to remain a dream. However, perseverance prevailed!

Flash forward to 2023: armed with determination, Randal collaborated with a new rendering consultant to breathe life into the vision. Through meticulous adjustments and creative collaboration, they honed in on the perfect representation of the project.
Today, he’s thrilled to unveil the stunning 3D renderings that encapsulate the essence of this community-centric development. A courtyard-style design, complete with a central pool and sun deck, promises to redefine modern living in Surprise.

This journey can teach us the power of resilience and collaboration. Despite the challenges, passion and perseverance can turn dreams into reality. Cheers to the bright future of this architectural gem!
