Sconces are an amazing light source and we love to use them to add ambiance and character to a space.

The right lighting gives any space a sense of warmth, texture and coziness. We like to use them as a decorative statement, accent pieces, wall decor, art and light! And a dimmer switch is always a nice touch. OH, and a shield shade casts the best hue (as long as you use the right bulbs)!

Another one from the archives!⁣

Here are three photos from a past favorite project for an amazing client. The project included all new furniture, an antique rug, and beautiful wool drapery to refresh the living spaces of this Russian Hill residence. The refresh turned out to be an extensive project that included bedrooms and a total redo to the primary bath. ⁣

It was an honor and a gift to design everything around the incredible art these clients had collected over the decades:⁣
Calder, Matisse, Diebenkorn, Donald Judd, Thiebaud to name a few.⁣

The backstory, and why we were thrilled to get this project, is that the original designer for this client was Kalef Alaton who did it in the late 70s. I had the pleasure to work with him on two large projects in Dallas Texas back in the 80’s before I started my own design practice. I always admired his style and aesthetic so it truly felt like coming full circle. ⁣

This is the solarium we did for Senator Dianne Feinstein’s San Francisco residence. This project was a complete top to bottom renovation and decoration. ⁣
Yes, 10,000 square feet in less than a year!!!⁣

The Solarium is one of our favorite rooms from that project. ⁣

We opened the ceiling to reveal the skylight that had been covered then added hand painted friezes by artist Michael Duté around the perimeter of the skylight. We also tented the upper interior with sheer fabric to allow light but keep the room at a comfortable temperature.⁣

The plate glass window at the back of the room showcased a sculpture, originally seen in the Musée D’Orsay, acquired from a dealer in France. ⁣

The granite table had a limestone dolphin base and was surrounded by period Chinese Chippendale chairs. The gorgeous Regency Period chandelier hung above the table and we also chose custom made, tole painted, shield shade sconces from Rossi Antiques. ⁣

We installed beautiful custom hardware and cremone bolts from P.E. Guerin on the doors on either side of the solarium.⁣

This one was absolutely gorgeous!! The room was so full of light during the day and so cozy at night with the ambient lighting.⁣

Here’s another perspective on the before and after of the high rise pied à terre. The clients wanted a simple, no clutter design but with touches of luxury. ⁣

We accomplished their desired look with clean lines, textures in fabric and wallpaper as well as a monochromatic color palette. ⁣

The upside down Saraille wallpaper from Osborne and Little was carried over from the bar area to the column near the sofa and then a handmade wall covering from Gergorius Pineo at Kneedler Fauchère over the custom built credenza.⁣

The gold/brass finishes from the dining table base and kitchen cabinet pulls were also used for the legs of the sectional and the Siemon & Salazar Barnacle glass pendant drops over the kitchen island.⁣

The Sectional, Chairs and Pendant Lights are from A Rudin.⁣

Here’s the dining area in the recently completed high rise pied à terre, continuing the modern feel. ⁣

We did a custom Paul Ferrante Mondrian Dining table base in a gold leaf finish and a rectangular glass top. We chose the Kravet Westlake chairs for the clean lines and comfortable sit.⁣

The scale of the table and chairs fit perfectly in the dining space. The open, geometric form of the table base tied in the modern architecture of the building and the airy feel of being on the 21st floor.⁣

This is a kitchen before and after of high rise apartment full redo project we did. Nothing changed in the kitchen - we painted the cabinets a beautiful dark gray, had the cabinet hardware replated in brass and installed a wallpaper (yes, we love wallpaper and it’s very effective in transforming spaces) over the bar. ⁣

We deliberately hung the wallpaper - Saraille in color Noir from Designers Guild available at Osborne & Little - upside down to evoke the beauty of the sometimes foggy skies of San Francisco seen from their 21st floor views. It’s a lovely, subtle nod to SF.⁣

The clients wanted a home designed clean lines and a monochromatic color palette with a touch of texture. We design for the space and the client = win - win!!⁣

I love having fun with really small spaces. I love to transform tiny spaces into little jewel boxes so you feel completely enveloped when you’re inside them.⁣

In this case, it’s the 2 person elevator at the current full renovation project.⁣

Before, it was just a box with plain dull walls and a wood floor. It felt really industrial - but not anymore!!!⁣

We papered the walls with the gorgeous “Gallery” wallpaper in red by Andrew Martin. And we put the companion paper “Kew” on the ceiling which will be finished off with gold leaf framed ceiling light fixture.⁣

There have been more installations recently at the full re-do project!! It’s always exciting for us as the designers to see the our creative ideas materialize. And it’s also fun to see how happy the clients are when they see these elements installed and how the whole vision starts to come together. ⁣

Here’s the Guest Bath: ⁣
Birches Wallpaper (color Snow) from Cowtan & Tout. We are loving how the grain of the vanity picks up the grain of the birch branches in the wallpaper.⁣

In the Potting Shed:⁣
Floral & Fauna Wallpaper by John Derian for Designers Guild available at Osborn & Little. The client is an avid gardener, blessed with a green thumb, so we created this area for her to have a dedicated space to get her hands dirty.⁣

In the Lower Level Breezeway, leading to the potting shed:⁣
We are in love with the Magic Forest Mural by Borastapeter Sweden available at F. Schumacher. The client says this reminds her of her childhood and her adult love of nature.⁣

More updates coming soon!!⁣

Yesterday, we started installing the chandeliers! The client wants to respect the original details of the house so we refurbished and added back some original details that had been lost. We are adding modern touches like these chandelier to meet their taste and aesthetic. ⁣

In the living room and adjacent library we have a pair of matching Paul Ferrnate Waterlillies chandeliers hanging beneath original plaster medallions. These gorgeous pieces are 49” wide and 49” tall, perfectly filling the spaces!⁣

In the dining room, we have an 8 light “Starlight” chandelier, also from Paul Ferrnate. It hangs beneath a plaster medallion made from an original period mold. We had local artist, Samantha Renko, hand finish the medallion in Benjamin Moore Lafayette Green and gold powder to tie in the color palette of the room and the finish of the chandelier.⁣

In the breakfast room, we have a Paul Ferrante “Passera” 6 light chandelier. Samantha Renko hand finished California Poppies on the medallion also made from a period mold.⁣

All these chandeliers made by Paul Ferrante and plaster medallions by Lorna Kollmeyer Plaster.⁣

LOVING the wallpaper that went up in the lower level hallway that leads to the custom sauna. It’s hard to catch the details and beauty of the Kanoko Cork wallpaper in the color silver by Osborne & Little. It really sparkles when the light hits it!

Progress!!
The entryway of the current project needed something big. So, instead of a piece of art I suggested to the clients that we install a huge mirror framed in the same moldings as the door casings directly opposite the entry to the living room. Once it’s all finished, the beautiful new fireplace will be reflected in the mirror.
Mirrors add light and depth to spaces creating more dimension. Mirrors also draw the eye to details that might go unnoticed!

Another update from the progress of the full reno project. This time it’s the first floor powder room! I love designing these tiny spaces, finding a way to make them into beautiful little jewel boxes. ⁣

Here we chose a Mural style wallpaper called “Deya Meadow” (in the colorway Sky Blue) designed by Matthew Williamson for Osborne & Little. 🦋⁣

The room is accented with Benjamin Moore paints: trim color Blue Bay Marina and then a fun splash of color on the vanity and the door⁣
Royal Fuchsia. 🌸⁣

Tiny spaces can have the biggest impact!!⁣
