Rooms With A View: Our “House for an Architect” project in Sausalito, before and after. The bay views were previously almost entirely hidden by solid walls and small windows. We uncovered the views and reoriented the layout to take advantage of them, including moving the main rooms to the view side of the house and removing many interior walls. Thank you to a great client and team:

Thank you

Luis Barragan. Breathtaking, intimate work. Ahead of his time. Particularly given the context of the surrounding architecture. (Some nice examples of the latter also shown here).

The parks here are so exotic feeling. More jungle-like than manicured. Even some streets have this feeling. My favorite one such street, Avenida Amsterdam, is an elliptical shape with a gorgeous lush green pedestrian meridian path. It was the former horse track for the Condesa, thus its elliptical shape. Lined with the most charming and architecturally eclectic group of buildings and perfect cafes. My favorite walk here.

Diego Rivera murals and Frida Khalo paintings. These were exquisite and far exceeded my expectations. Highlights, to say the least. The mural is massive, captivating and gorgeous. These works of Khalo’s were beautiful, poetic and powerful. Highly recommend a trip for these alone. Great .

Photograph by Tyre D. Nichols. “Hey guys, My name is Tyre D. Nichols. I am an aspiring photographer. Well I mostly do this stuff for fun but i enjoy it very much. Photography helps me look at the world in a more creative way. It expresses me in ways i cannot write down for people. I take different types of photograhy, anywhere from action sports to rural photos, to bodies of water and my favorite.. landscape photography. My vision is to bring my viewers deep into what i am seeing through my eye and out through my lens. People have a story to tell why not capture it instead of doing the "norm" and writing it down or speaking it. I hope to one day let people see what i see and to hopefully admire my work based on the quality and ideals of my work. So on that note enjoy my page and let me know what you think.
Your friend,
-Tyre D. Nichols”

This project is our remodel of and addition to a 1951 William Wurster-designed courtyard bungalow. Wurster offset the house from the street, creating a peaceful courtyard in the middle of the City. One façade on the courtyard was a beautiful window wall into the Living Room. The other wall, the kitchen wall, had an open air utility closet and one window. In need of a modernization, we gutted the kitchen, expanded it to replace the outdoor closet, and gave it the “love” the other courtyard façade had. Now with a full window wall and a porous relationship to the garden (and the rest of the house), it feels like a natural completion of the courtyard. Thank you to these wonderful clients, my talented team, and to for turning the project down. Thank you also to and for sharing the story.
