Beginning late last year and continuing into early this year, Elkhorn Village Elementary School within Washington Unified School District has undergone a remarkable transformation. From the earliest stages of site preparation to the installation of TimberQuest’s mass timber buildings, this timelapse showcases the rapid progression of a campus designed for future generations. As the project nears completion, we’re excited to see this new learning environment open its doors later this year.

We had a wonderful time celebrating the completion of the Waggoner Elementary School TK/Kindergarten Expansion project with a ribbon cutting ceremony! ✂️🎀 Studio W was excited to join Van Pelt Construction Services, Landmark Construction and the Winters Joint Unified School District community for this milestone.

Listening to enthusiastic teachers and District staff share how eager they are to use these new spaces made the day incredibly meaningful. The project features a new four-classroom TK/K modular building designed specifically for early learners, complete with a secure, dedicated play area and vital site safety upgrades for parent pick-up/drop-off.

Thank you to the District for trusting us to bring this vision to life. We are proud to see these spaces ready to serve the next generation of students!

Studio W has the latest update for progress made at Kairos Public Schools’ Luminary High School! The newest addition to the Vacaville campus is underway with a new classroom wing taking shape adjacent to the KISP facility.

This expansion includes two classroom buildings designed to support a dynamic and growing student population. Altogether, the new wing will house five general classrooms, two dedicated science labs, a prep room and a study space. Administrative and student support areas are also integrated into the design, with additional support spaces, such as a janitorial room and restrooms.

A defining feature of the project is the canopy structure that connects the two buildings, creating a covered outdoor space that encourages flexible, open-air learning opportunities.

Construction is progressing steadily, with the classroom buildings nearing completion. Interior finishes are currently underway, while site work is preparing for the paving of the quad and walkways.

We recently joined Unger Construction and the Consolidated Tribal Health Project, Inc. (CTHP) in celebrating the groundbreaking ceremony for CTHP’s new Behavioral Health & Dental Building in Redwood Valley. This milestone represents an important step forward in expanding access to comprehensive, culturally responsive health care services for the community.

The CTHP is a consortium of eight tribes and rancherias in the region, operating a full-service clinic that provides primary care, dental and behavioral health services. This expansion will further enhance their ability to serve the community with care that is both accessible and culturally grounded.

The ceremony was filled with excitement, tradition and a strong sense of community. The event featured a land blessing prior to the ceremonial turning of the soil, Pomo dancing, local vendors, community resource booths and remarks from the CTHP Board of Directors along with project partners.

The new facility will add 14,100 square feet of expanded services and support spaces, along with site improvement. The clinical spaces will include new dental operatories, behavioral health rooms, group therapy spaces, waiting areas, offices and meeting rooms.

We are grateful to be part of this project and look forward to construction commencing this month.

Natomas High School’s aquatics facility has been revitalized, transforming an aging pool into a modern, high-performing amenity that supports the school’s growing aquatic program. The upgraded pool is now well-equipped to host swim meets and support a high level of athletic performance.

The modernization includes a complete replacement of the existing pool deck, along with retiling and replastering of the pool. Key facility upgrades feature the installation of artificial turf, shade sails, spectator bleachers and updated pool filters.

A few weeks ago, Lisa May was hosted by ALR for an immersive lighting tour in Seattle, offering a behind-the-scenes look at two innovative manufacturers and the artistry behind their installations.

At LightArt, Lisa explored a series of installations woven throughout the open studio, each showcasing the intersection of design, craftsmanship and sustainability. The team provided a sneak peek at upcoming fixtures, featuring sculptural statement pieces and innovative acoustic lighting solutions that seamlessly integrate into a variety of environments while standing on their own as works of art. Many of the materials used are recycled and thoughtfully transformed, an approach Lisa found especially inspiring. She also had the opportunity to create her own resin votives, gaining a deeper appreciation for the hands-on process behind custom lighting design.

The tour continued at Graypants Studio, where Lisa participated in a hands-on Scraplight making experience using recycled cardboard, one of the studio’s signature materials. In addition to exploring a range of installations, she noted several collections as favorites for their thoughtful approach to materiality and form. One of the most impactful aspects of the visit was learning about Graypants’ partnership with Bellevue College’s Occupational and Life Skills Program, which provides paid internship opportunities for individuals with learning disabilities. Lisa shared that “this commitment to inclusivity and meaningful engagement added a deeper level of inspiration to an already memorable experience.”

Experiences like this continue to inform and inspire our approach to design, reinforcing the value of innovation, sustainability and meaningful collaboration. We’re grateful for opportunities to connect with industry partners and bring fresh ideas back to our work and clients.
