What is community? There are so many definitions and answers to this question, but when we asked a group of students, the response was unequivocal: a sense of belonging. Schools and learning environments have challenges creating a sense of belonging for their students and faculty at the best of times. More recently, the COVID-19 epidemic left students constantly plugged in and at the same time feeling more alone than ever before. Artik’s design team, in collaboration with the Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA), is proud to announce the expansion of the CSMA Finn Center campus, including the new Roy & Ruth Rogers Wing. Longtime supporters and advocates for CSMA and Arts4All, Ruth and Roy helped purchase the property for the new state-of-the-art facility. The new wing will serve approximately 25% more students with arts education programs. The new classrooms and digital lab will offer a 21st-century learning experience, and the space will house the school’s extensive collection of sheet music and instruments.

Artik is excited to share that we are sponsoring a visionary and timely project exploring the future of learning. A team of our youngest designers created the original vision for 2035 of a community learning center. Now, in a follow-up pro bono project, we are building upon the vision we imagined for 2035 and evolving it forward to 2070.

Community continues to be a key theme and now also compassion. Our volunteer team is busy imagining what a compassionate community learning model might be like in 2070. The vision will be shared in a second short film that will premiere at the upcoming A4LE LearningScapes Denver conference in October, 2021.

We are asking for your support to help defray the cost of making this film illuminating a bold vision for 2070. Much of the research and content preparation for the film is being donated by our team and we also need your help. A contribution of any amount is greatly appreciated.

Lazear Charter Academy, Education for Change Public Schools' first Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) school recently opened its doors to students and staff. Artik is proud to have worked with the school community to create this comprehensive campus, including flexible classrooms, interactive indoor/outdoor activity areas, and administrative and support spaces.

Gardner Health Center Exterior Paint & Finishes

Gardner Health Center @ 195 East Virginia St. is located across the street from the recently re-vamped Gardner Specialty Services Center. Gardner Health Services came to Artik with the goal of establishing a landmark for the community by creating a visual connection between the two facilities. With that goal in mind, Artik designers thoughtfully selected 6 colors from the original 11 color palette. We then explored the exterior paint options and developed a cohesive and unified solution, creating a strong and vibrant visual impact. The warm tones preserve the historical significance of the building and complement the existing mural, La Medicina y La Comunidad Mural (1990) by Gustavo Bernal. The entire block looks refreshed and brightened with the newly updated exterior finishes.
