💛 PHYSIOLOGICAL LEAF YELLOWING 💛

Not every yellow leaf is a problem. Sometimes, it’s simply part of the plant’s natural process.

🔍 Signs:
• 1–2 older leaves turning yellow naturally
• Uniform yellowing across the entire leaf surface
• Light yellow-green coloration with some green still remaining
• Often occurs after long shipping periods
• Can be triggered by environmental changes and transplant stress

✅ Prevention:
• Avoid stressing the plant immediately after arrival
• Keep environmental conditions stable
• Allow time for acclimation

🌱 Treatment:
• No treatment is necessary
• Let the plant adjust naturally
• Only remove the leaf once it has completely dried out

A yellow leaf doesn’t always mean something is wrong. Focus on the overall health of the plant and new growth rather than a single aging leaf.

NODE / STEM ROT

One of the most frustrating issues for aroids is stem or node rot. It often starts with a soft, dark node and can quickly spread if left untreated.

✅ Prevention:
• Use a well-draining, airy substrate
• Avoid prolonged overwatering
• Don’t allow water to sit on the node

🌱 Treatment:
• Remove all rotted tissue immediately
• If part of the node is still green and healthy, save it
• Re-root the healthy section in sphagnum moss or moist perlite
• Apply a mild fungicide if needed

Early intervention can make the difference between losing a plant and saving a rare one. Always inspect your nodes regularly and act fast at the first sign of rot.

💧 EDEMA (WATER BLISTERS) – NOT A DISEASE, BUT A WARNING SIGN

Notice small water-soaked bumps on your leaves that later turn dark or black? Your plant may be suffering from edema.

Edema happens when the plant absorbs more water than it can transpire, causing cells to rupture and leave permanent damage behind.

✅ Prevention:
• Avoid watering during cold or highly humid conditions
• Provide brighter indirect light
• Use a well-draining growing medium

🛠 Treatment:
• Reduce watering immediately
• Increase airflow around the plant
• Be patient—damaged leaves won’t fully recover, but new growth should emerge healthy once conditions improve.

🌿 Healthy roots + proper watering = healthy leaves.
Save this post to help identify edema before it becomes a bigger problem.

🚨 BACTERIAL SOFT ROT – ACT FAST!

Soft, mushy tissue, a foul smell, and rapid spread are classic signs of bacterial soft rot. Once it starts, every hour matters.

✅ Prevent it by avoiding water sitting on leaves, minimizing wounds, and ensuring good airflow.

🛠 If infection appears:
• Remove all affected tissue immediately
• Sterilize tools between cuts
• Apply a copper-based bactericide
• Isolate the plant from your collection

⚠️ Severe infections can be extremely difficult to save, so early detection is key.
