MSA A local architecture firm specializing in residential and commercial projects. MS|A, founded in 2011 by Micah D. Client expectations are exceeded at MS|A.

Smith, AIA, is a small San Luis Obispo-based architecture firm specializing in custom residential and small to medium-sized commercial projects. With 15 years of architectural experience, Micah’s creative problem solving, knowledge and resourcefulness lead to value-added architectural service and superior built work. MS|A brings a passion for design together with a pride in quality deliverables an

d overall team experience to each and every project. A core principle at MS|A is building strong relationships that transcend any single work’s design, permitting and building phases. The success of each work is measured in human terms as well as the traditional metrics of design/budget/schedule/execution. The importance of a strong team plays out throughout the life a project because of MS|A’s collaborative design approach that brings together the right team for each project. Design principles for the firm include sustainability, creative use of materials, clean lines, strong massing, and complementary uses of color and materials. The end result is rich, tasteful, timeless, and provocative. Prior to starting his own firm, Micah gained experience with a verity of firms and construction-related businesses before settling in the previous 7 years at Leonard Grant, Architect. At LGA Micah’s primary contributions included construction documents, electronic 3D modeling, and design. Micah received his B.A. in Environmental Analysis and Design from University of California, Irvine where he studied both the natural and built environment and the connection of the two. Micah also attended a 2-year architecture program at Orange Coast College. Continuing education is important to Micah, as he is committed to learning for life. Important recourses for Micah’s continuing architecture education are independent study, the American Institute of Architects, college courses as well as hands-on construction experience with Habitat for Humanity and with some of his own design work.

We took our office staff and families to the Monterey Bay Aquarium last Saturday. Probably the most rewarding thing we’ve done in some time. So fun to see the fun had by all.

We are super excited today as we won a contract for a farmworker housing project in Shandon! Looking forward to being part of a team to house 240 workers who will be doing the hard work of picking grapes that go into some of our favorite wines.

Clients had us over for coffee on the patio this morning. Their place turned out nice, they love it. Remodel of a tired and uninsulated mid century modern, updated and comfortable. No use of AC last summer, they didn’t need it thanks to the new insulation and windows.

Final custom gate punch-list item. The gate is slightly too narrow for the Baldwin Reserve deadbolt, which caused the lock to bind up and not operate smoothly. Today I made up a pair of 1/8” rubber spacers. Works perfectly!

Also used a piece of leftover rubber mat to cushion the strike side of the gate.

Thank you to Allen Thomas Root for the top notch design and fabrication work!
