Sometimes a job in Extension means watching a PBS Deep Look video repeatedly to grab some screen captures from it, and getting itchier and itchier with each viewing.

If you want to put some Halloween Horror into your day, you can check the video out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rD8SmacBUcU

Or come to WopsHops Brewing tomorrow night (10/14) at 7pm to hear my talk Bugs That Suck!

So when I get asked what an average day looks like at my job, I always laugh, and then stare in to space. Today I collected porterweed, put it in a dehydrator purchased in 1997 (and unused until today!), taught a class on vegetable gardening, answered plant questions, remembered my dehydrating porterweed, turned it in to tea, decided that wont really shine in our Knowledge on Tap brew with WopsHops Brewing company in two weeks, and started on picking beauty berries, roasting porterweed (will it taste different?) and dehydrating goldenrod as alternatives.

Find out what WopsHops Brewing Company actually makes with the ingredients I provided on September 9th at 7pm.

While prepping my house for sale, I dug up and donated my Cherry of the Rio Grande (Eugenia involucrata) to the Extension office. It was really mad about the change of location for a few months, but since the rainy season hit it has been producing new leaves, and most excitingly, new fruit! Of the tropical cherries, I find these the closest in flavor to northern cherries that I've tried. These fruit are smaller than usual - I think the tree is still a little mad at me.

Sometimes you go on vacation for a week and return to your office pet giving birth to dozens of babies. This millipede is one of my Insect Ambassadors and has so many babies sharing her container now. They are so cute! 🥰

I have it on good authority (it is me, I'm the authority) that the beer for this month's Knowledge on Tap class will include honey from our Seminole County Extension Hives. Come down and learn all about bugs while drinking a sweet brew at Wops Hops in Sanford on Tuesday night! 🐝🐝🐝
