MuralColors is at it again! They are in our city restoring another classic mural. This time they are restoring the Chicano Gothic mural by Vasquez. In 1987, Emigdio depicted the life of working class Mexican Americans (Chicanos) which is a reference to the 1930โ€™s painting โ€œAmerican Gothicโ€ by Grant Wood.
The city had planned to demolish the mural due the new development of an aquatic center at memorial park.
Thanks to Alicia Rojas, members of the Memorial Neighborhood Association and city council members support better minds prevailed.

Santa Ana College
in 1991, a then SAC student, a MECHista, created the RAZA mural on Civic Center Drive in Santa Ana. He was inspired by the Chicano mural movement that he came to know while attending College. 33 years later, his original mural still stands as a testament to his inspiration and love to his community. The mural has been restored and we will celebrate the ribbon cutting on Saturday, Sept 7th.
