About Us
Owner Rico Delgado is a second generation Santa Barbara small business owner who lives and works as an organic gardener in Santa Barbara County. Growing up, he was exposed to gardening
and maintenance as a "weekend helper" to his father Ben, who operated a local maintenance business. Today we know that the health of plants and the food we grow depends on chemical-free methods. As a Certif

ied Green Gardener, Rico uses creative organic methods to plant and maintain orchards, flower and vegetable gardens, and properties. In alignment with the philosophy of biodiversity, Rico began making his own compost several years ago using only natural organic local ingredients. Worms are essential in good soil composition. Rico's teams of
hard-working worms are his greatest business allies. They aerate and enrich the compost soil with micro-organisms from their castings. Rico works in harmony with Mother Nature to create some of the finest compost/soil/fertilizer available.

Composting and Feeding our Big Tangerine Tree in the Orchard!

We start with a layer of minerals, a blend of six different types to replenish residential properties that may have been treated with chemical fertilizers.

After the minerals, we add compost, being careful not to disturb the feeder roots under the citrus trees.

Once the compost is down, we cover it with mulch to keep the microbes alive and soil moist and healthy. Finally, we apply a layer of water.

Here are some 400x microscope videos showing the microbial life in a sample of Rico's Organics Good Chit Compost from September 2015. The little round shapes are bacterium, the big blobs are amoebas, the seed shaped slipper thingys are parameciums and there are even more interesting but yet unidentified critters in there.
