Many people girdle their trees at the base of the trunk to prevent damage from and to their lawnmowers and other mechanical yard tools. Unfortunately, this can essentially “strangle” your tree. A good alternative is to use a small amount of annual herbicide at the base of the tree to keep it w**d free.

There are many ‘wrong ways’ to prune a tree. The angle used to cut into the branch or limb can affect the length of time it will take to heal its wound. It can also create ‘tears’ in the bark which can permanently damage a tree. This is why pruning is often best left to the professionals.
