Takigyô (滝行) is a Japanese ascetic practice involving meditating under a waterfall, often performed as a form of spiritual purification or to test mental and physical strength ( tanren 鍛錬) . It's a ritual rooted in Shintō and Buddhist traditions, where participants stand under the cold, powerful cascade of a waterfall while reciting prayers or sutras.

Takigyô Tanren is a part of the Bushinden Tasmania Shinden Fudō Ryū Dōjō Students practice to develop the heart and mind of Fudōshin ( immovable spirit ). Though this practice we ask for the continued guidance and protection of Fudō Myōō 不動明王( immovable wisdom deity ) as a guide and protector of Shugyosha 修行者 ( persons embarking on austere practices ).

"Immovable One":
Fudō Myōō name, meaning "Immovable One," signifies his unwavering resolve in protecting the Buddhist teachings and guiding practitioners.

Protector Deity:
He is a guardian deity who protects Buddhism and its followers from evil and delusion.

Appearance:
Fudō Myōō is typically depicted with a fierce, wrathful expression, often with bulging eyes, fangs, and flames surrounding him.

Symbolism:
Sword: The sword in his right hand symbolizes wisdom, used to cut through ignorance and delusion.

Rope: The rope in his left hand represents his ability to restrain negative passions and evil forces.

Flames: The flames around him symbolize the purification of evil and negative influences.
