Camp David Gonzales is a former juvenile probation camp. One of several slated for closure, Camp Gonzales is to be transformed into a voluntary residential and vocational center/firefighting career training center for young adults ages 18 to 25.

Currently the camp is composed of 8 existing structures including administration, housing, recreation, educational, and dining which were originally constructed in the 1960s and are in need of extensive renovation and updating. In addition to aforementioned improvements, the former probation camp is in need of extensive site improvements inclusive of accessibility, recreational areas and landscaping particularly for its new functionality. The repurposing and renovation of Camp Gonzales will occur over several phases and with the goal of modernizing and instilling the site with a vision of cohesiveness.

Home2Suites by Hilton is sited in the city of Montebello, located not too far from Downtown Los Angeles and Orange County’s entertainment areas, and is situated on the city’s 18-hole championship golf course. Designed to maximize use by the golf course guests by creating an interactive indoor/outdoor experience at the ground level and providing spectacular golf course views from every guestroom, the hotel consists of an 8 story 203 guestroom structure atop a 65-car underground parking garage.
A unique element about the building’s construction is that the guest bathrooms were fabricated and manufactured off-site and were delivered and installed in the building as a “Pod” system.

GATINS-CHAN RESIDENCE

We designed an office/studio addition for a writer director to be distinct and separate from his family home. The addition sits above a new garage to display the owner’s modest car collection, and activates a little-used portion of the backyard. A dedicated entrance to the office studio creates a sense of arrival and gives distinction between work and rest spaces.

An expressed circulation component fitted to the street-facing façade of the addition provides ample natural light while still offering refuge from neighboring sites in the surrounding constrained portion of the Benedict Canyon. Additional bedroom suites accessible from the main house, intended for aging parents, also allow more privacy for both family and guest.

This project includes both additions to, and alterations to an existing 3-story office building. Southern California Headquarters for Phase Metrics, an international leader in research, design, and manufacturing of production test and engineering test equipment in the data storage industry. This speculative 1970’s structure of quasi tilt-up construction required specific changes to serve the owner’s programming needs. The design scheme treats the existing nondescript building as a backbone for new improvements.

We create the perception of openness in an otherwise narrow, high-bay building, by both altering portions of the interior to fit human scale and by using natural light in common areas to invite occupants further into the clinic space. Program spaces are grouped into activity zones with gradually increasing levels of privacy, connected by common areas that take advantage of existing skylights. Exam rooms are fitted with tubular daylighting devices to draw more natural light, reducing the need for artificial general lighting in exam rooms, thereby reducing energy use. Increasing natural light in exam rooms also benefits patient comfort, which we increased further with a warm material palette that softens the sterile atmosphere of typical dental clinics.

LA Mission College Student Services Center will headquarter all Student and Administrative Services. The upper floor will include faculty administrative services and a new suite for the College President. We developed program criteria utilizing advanced technologies, and collaborative workshops allowing over 12 departmental groups to communicate the varied needs of the students and faculty they serve. Requirements, synthesized
into test-fit and inter-departmental adjacency diagrams, data sheets, and detailed space summaries, address unique challenges of serving a diverse student population, as well as adapting space as technology improves service delivery.

The laboratory is located in the Kaplan Clinical Research Building in the City of Hope Campus.
The goal of the design for the laboratory was to increase the density of the laboratory floor plate and promote connectivity with the other laboratories with the KCRB building. Shared core facilities, specialized equipment and those who operate it, provides shared access to all researchers. The open floor concept allowed connections to daylight and views for the researchers to enjoy .

Located in Buena Park, California, The Source OC consists of a mixed-use development, including office space, retail/shopping, entertainment and hotel, intended to create an entertainment destination due to its proximity to Knott’s Berry Farm, Disneyland & Huntington Beach. Phase 1.5 was completed as an addition to the Phase 1 overall retail/mall building and consists of a new 7-story mixed use tower consisting of a 175 guestroom hotel (3rd-7th floors) over 3 levels of retail/mall/shopping/entertainment.
The hotel portion was designed to include ground floor hotel transit lobby while floors 3 through 7 would contain the hotel’s amenities including the kitchen, meeting rooms, exercise rooms, lounge, lobby and exterior pool deck on the 5th floor.

Our Mission & Vision

We believe that design is, at its most basic, an attempt to conform the dynamics of the physical world to our desire to inhabit it. As the world continues to evolve, so does our design--ever-changing, constantly re-thinking the aesthetics of architecture according to the unique project of each client’s vision.

At the same time, we operate on the belief that the nature of architecture is in its details. In structures where functional elements are paramount, special attention must be paid to creating spaces where function can coexist with inspiration. Details elevate a project’s architectural impact --while never sacrificing accessibility, safety and sustainability -- and address the way in which it enriches the experience of its surrounding structures and the environment as a whole.
