Framestudio

Framestudio Point Richmond based architecture and design studio. Our work has received numerous accolades from local and national publications since 2004.

Frame is a multidisciplinary studio; a team with varying perspectives and skillsets crafting unique spaces to live, work, and relax in. Formerly Hwang DeWitt Architecture, the studio has developed a diverse body of work including residential, retail, office and medical interiors. The firm’s small size, by design, centers on the belief that each project deserves attention from all levels of the pra

ctice. We begin by absorbing as much about a project’s location and it’s practical requirements, including lifestyle, emotion, and passions of the client. We implore our clients to look beyond the specifics of the program, finding a description of how they want to feel being far more informative than the amount of square footage. We then layer our knowledge of the global design community and technical expertise, where through our frequent travels, we’ve gathered new ideas, emerging technologies, and common sense solutions that can be centuries old. We are driven by concept as much as by passion for the act of building. We believe in cutting away excess, ensuring elements come together in a thoughtful, clear and economical manner. Due to our hands on approach, Frame excels at small to medium sized commissions, with a greater than average amount of time spent on collaborating with the craftsmen, making certain that details are correct. We work with a select group of craftspeople, artisans and manufacturers, each selected for their high quality and outstanding workmanship, but most importantly, a shared vision.

Today we had the privilege of touring this modified A-frame home at The Sea Ranch. One of our favorite homes, it was designed by Robert Peterson, FAIA and built in 1971.

It’s becoming increasingly rare to find Sea Ranch homes in original condition, being sold by the original owner, but Unit #2 in Condominium One by MLTW ticks off all the boxes, including the original twin beds and bedspreads. We’re slack jaw at the beauty of this place, truly the best unit we’ve seen.

It clearly needs to be gently coaxed into the 20th century, and the Framestudio knows exactly how. Just promise to negotiate the cake carrier and twin bedspreads into your offer.

This is NorCal Bohemian Modernism at its very best.

While many get excited by flat roofs and expanses of glass, the team at Framestudio will take columns made trees trunks any day.

Architectural historian and local real estate agent, Christian Olson shares a sale listing for Japanese American architect Seiichi Kami’s own El Cerrito home in his Edificando blog.
