My grandma Joyce passed yesterday. She was an artist, a reader, and an avid gardener. She was the youngest child who made her own path in life, teaching art and getting a master's in print making at NYU. Old age took all those things away from her, so I try to soothe my grief by reminding myself that she is happier now. No more dementia to take away her memories and no more physical ailments for her to struggle through. She is having a most joyful reunion with her husband, siblings, and son!
But it is still hard to realize she isn't here. The passing of my grandparents is the end of a chapter of my life that I held on to very fiercely. She was a source of inspiration for my business-- the "Joyce" of Bessie and Joyce Flowers. Her home on Peaks Island in Maine is on my business logo. Her garden influenced mine, though it will never be as lush and beautiful as hers was. We nicknamed it the "Temple Square" garden for a reason!
I don't know what else to say, except to thank her for the part she played this gardening, growing, flowering part of my life. I feel that she will be close by me as I continue making bouquets that bring happiness to my life and the lives of those around me. I love you Grandma and will miss you! Until we meet again. ♥️
