“A place for the moments between. Designed as a companion to the main residence, this recreation building extends the experience of the property beyond the home itself. Exposed timber framing, natural stone, and views to the lake create a comfortable place to gather year-round.
The project began with a small, dated lakeside cottage. Through a thoughtful renovation and expansion of the original home, along with the addition of this recreation building, the property evolved into a collection of spaces that remain closely connected to the landscape and the water’s edge.”

We’re proud to share that Nathan Violette has fulfilled all New York State requirements to become a Registered Architect and has been promoted to Project Manager at BTA.

Since joining Balzer & Tuck in March 2022, Nathan has played an integral role in the design and documentation of both commercial and residential projects. He has steadily taken on greater project management responsibilities while also mentoring team members and contributing to our print marketing efforts.

Awarded in design excellence at WIT, Nathan has continued to balance design goals and constructability in a professional setting through close collaboration with project teams. Nathan’s love for architecture lies in composing architectural details as it relates to the building as a whole and its site, specifically through sketch iterations. In an ever-evolving technological world, Nathan believes the strongest design and composition emerge first through the mind and hand sketching—guided by a selective approach to materiality and a sensitivity to site.

Please join us in congratulating Nathan on this exciting career milestone! Here is to continued success with BTA.

The existing cabin set the tone—intimate in scale and closely tied to its site.

The design approach focused on preserving that character while introducing new program, allowing the addition to grow outward from the original structure. Each move responds to the terrain, stepping with the slope and maintaining a careful balance between expansion and restraint.

Movement through the site is intentional, shaping a sequence of arrival that reveals space gradually rather than all at once. Openings are positioned to frame moments, creating a dialogue between interior and landscape.

The land sets the tone and we respond!

When BTA first walked the site with our clients, the solution was clear: The property exists at the threshold between earth and sky. The gentle slope of the land, views of the distant Adirondack Mountains and celebrating the beauty of the setting sun shaped every move of the pen for the Skyfall residence.

Stairs as sculpture. Every project offers this rare opportunity—to design not just a functional path between floors, but a three-dimensional exploration of form, light, and craftsmanship.

We see stairs as an opportunity to collaborate closely with incredibly skilled craftspeople who understand how to translate our sketches and drawings into reality, who know materials intimately, and who bring precision to every detail.

We’re grateful for clients who see stairs not as mere circulation, but as an invitation—to be bold and celebrate the journey between spaces.

Stairs become a celebration of what’s possible when design and craft come together.
