What’s your opinion on this? 🤔🐣
I opened Facebook this morning and the very first post in my feed was a car dealership hosting a chick hatch challenge.
Maybe I’m overthinking it, but my first thought wasn’t, “Oh, how cute.” It was concern.
Hatching isn’t just a fun photo opportunity or a marketing campaign. It’s a huge responsibility. Those of us who hatch regularly know how much can go wrong, even when you know exactly what you’re doing.
Will someone experienced be monitoring the incubator around the clock? Will they resist the temptation to keep opening it for social media updates, risking shrink-wrapping and the deaths of chicks that were otherwise healthy? Do they know when to intervene… and more importantly, when NOT to? What happens to the chicks once the contest is over? Will they have appropriate housing, feed, heat, and long-term care plans?
I truly hope the answer to all of those questions is yes.
Maybe they have partnered with knowledgeable poultry keepers and have everything planned out. I sincerely hope that’s the case. But if not, it’s concerning that living animals could become props for publicity without understanding the responsibility that comes with them.
Watching new life hatch is incredible. It’s educational, exciting, and can inspire a lifelong love of animals. But these aren’t giveaways, decorations, or temporary attractions. They’re living creatures that deserve proper care long after the likes, comments, and shares stop rolling in.
What do you think? Am I being overly cautious, or would these questions cross your mind too?
👇 I’d genuinely love to hear your thoughts.
