Many know of the Thomas Square Streetcar Historic District that resides north of Anderson Lane to Victory Street, and Montgomery Street on the west side, stretching to East Broad Street. The area was a “streetcar suburb” when the electric streetcar ran along Whittaker Street through the district from 1888 to 1920. In 1997 it was designated a National Register Historic District. New and exciting bu
sinesses are popping up everywhere to include shopping, design companies, hip restaurants, and so much more! Old buildings are being restored and more are being built. The community is designing itself into a new, exciting destination for visitors and locals alike – with many now referring to it as the “Streetcar Design District.”
We have local retailers, antique malls, architecture firms, interior designers, graphic designers, website designers, application developers, floral designers, culinary artists, game-changers, thinkers, and doers… who have all joined together to become community restorers. The Streetcar Design District is rising!
