The biggest tree concern on your property may not be the one that looks unhealthy.

Many storm-related failures originate from defects homeowners can't easily see from the ground, including internal decay, weak branch attachments, or structural issues that developed years ago.

A tree can look healthy while still carrying elevated risk.

With summer storm season underway, now is a good time to take a closer look at trees near homes, driveways, patios, and other frequently used areas.

🌲❓Did you know: Pruning select tree branches can reduce stress, improve airflow, lessen storm risk, and help preserve the natural form of valuable specimen trees.

Many homeowners think of pruning as a cosmetic service. In reality, proper pruning is one of the most important investments you can make in the long-term health and structure of a tree.

The best pruning isn't always obvious—it's often the work you don't notice.

Mosquitoes and ticks are especially active this summer-and many homeowners are noticing the difference.

These pests thrive in shaded landscape beds, wooded edges, and other areas where families spend time outdoors.

Emerald Tree Care's mosquito and tick management programs target these high-activity areas to help reduce pest populations and make outdoor living more enjoyable all season long.

This May, we had the privilege of showing
up for two events that remind us why this work matters
beyond the job site.

We supported the Women in Arboriculture Initiative at
the Historic Green-Wood Cemetery (
The Green-Wood Cemetery) in Brooklyn, and joined the
community at the Trinity Cemetery Community Day in
Manhattan.

Two historic green spaces. Two communities worth
investing in. This is what responsible stewardship looks
like off the clock.

🌱 From the field 🌸

Photos from our arborists out in the field, trees in full bloom across the properties we care for.

Each bloom is a result of the right conditions: proper pruning, healthy soil, and consistent care.

When trees don’t bloom, they’re telling you something.
If you’re not seeing results like this, it might be time for a closer look.

Anthracnose in Trees 🌿

What those brown spots really mean…
Noticing brown spots, curling leaves, or early leaf drop this spring? It might be anthracnose, a common fungal disease that shows up during cool, wet weather.

🍃 What to look for:
• Brown or black leaf spots
• Curled or distorted leaves
• Early leaf drop
• Dead areas along veins
• Twig dieback

🌧️ Why it happens:
Anthracnose thrives in cool, rainy conditions and spreads through moisture, poor airflow, and tree stress.

🌳 Trees most affected:
Sycamore, Dogwood, Oak, Maple, and Ash

🛠️ How to manage it:
• Prune infected branches
• Clean up fallen leaves
• Improve soil + root health
• Increase airflow
• Preventative treatments (for severe cases)

💡 Good news:
Most mature trees recover once the weather warms up — but repeated stress can weaken them over time.

📞 If your trees are showing heavy damage or repeated defoliation, it’s worth getting a professional evaluation.

Healthy trees don’t happen by accident. They’re managed.
